True, California has been a left leaning state for the past decade or two since Reagan left office, but it wasn’t all that long ago that we gave birth to the John Birch society and Richard Nixon’s merry band of locally bred “Rat Fu**ers”. There are still RW bastions in Orange County and in Nunez’ home area in the Central Valley.
So I’m glad my home state is now predominantly blue, but it was more rightist in living memory. Thank heaven for demographic shifts that look to be permanent.

I don’t live there anymore, but don’t call it “Cali” anyway. Also the coastal city around the middle/north of the state is not “Frisco” or “San Fran”, although the coastal city down south is “El Ay”.

Also way up north. The county up in the top left corner is Del Norte, which they pronounce “Del Nort”. This may be a clue. The most liberal and most highly educated states (like Massachusetts) all have their rednecks.
