Sondland Kept Mulvaney, Perry Updated On Pressure Campaign

Yep and look much like the Ukraine Trump wanted in power.

I hear your view, but I am not sure it is the best policy.

I feel like we’ll need a truth & reconciliation commission to rehab unrepentant GOPers anyway, maybe this could be run through the congress instead of executive

There will be a political cost in doing that but I think it is justified to make the point that criminal activity in the government, particularly at the highest levels, will not be tolerated. Obama took the “let it be” approach and left the door open for an even worse repeat of Bush Jr.'s criminality by Trump.

Those go in the evidence folder for future AG investigations. The next AG is going to be very from day 1.

“Taken together, new evidence paints a picture of Trump administration officials lashed ever closer to coercion — or as Democrats call it, bribery — of a foreign government for a domestic political advantage.‘

“In other news, Donald Trump has just shot and killed without remorse, 4 innocent people at Random on 5th Avenue — or, as Democrats call it, murdered them.“

Unless the Dems take the Senate in 2020 we’re guaranteed two years of gridlock at the start of Dem Prez term. Failing again in the midterms will result in a wasted term altogether. A GOP Senate will not cooperate on anything. No judges, no votes on SCOTUS nominees, no legislation, nothing. Certainly a GOP Senate will shut down any Congressional attempts to mete out justice for current behaviors.

The R’s in Congress are themselves unrepentant. Many likely benefited from foreign money in recent campaigns. You want them to have a say?

Is Sondland leaking this ahead of spilling the beans? It would certainly make it harder for the usual suspects to claim he’s making it up.

Is it optimal? Of course not. Is it necessary? You’re damn right it is.

Many other countries prosecute criminality at the highest levels of govt. This idea that it cant or shouldnt be done here is absurd.

Make the laws crystal clear
Taxes must be released
No President is above the law

I continue to believe that Dems would be making a mistake in restricting the scope of impeachment to just the Trump-Zelensky quid pro quo and any obstruction directly related to it. At the very least it needs to be expanded to these Ukraine oil and gas sweetheart deals as corrupt intent (if it can be linked back to Trump as Dems can’t impeach anyone not currently in the administration). But also, I strongly believe, expanded out to Russian-related charges and everything stemming from that.

This all also needs to be referred to the DoJ, which while Barr might try to block anything from being taken up by it, isn’t entirely in his hands as individual US Attorneys get to decide what to investigate and if Barr orders them not to, or fires them, that’s obstruction and he would have to be impeached as well, and the next AG would have to take these up.

But, a very narrow and limited textbook impeachment would be a huge mistake by Dems. They need impeachment to be about all the provably corrupt acts by Trump. ALL of them. Impeachment isn’t a legal process so it doesn’t have to be treated as such. It’s a political process.

Would be? They already have. I see no indication their scope is going to expand. They have a calendar against them. Every month closer to the election is more fodder for those saying let the electorate sort it out. Dem Senators have campaigns to wage, some at the Presidential level. I see no sign a raft of likely criminality is getting dragged into the proceedings at this point. Probably never will.

Yep, Hillary was right. It takes a village. I’m sure she didn’t mean this kind of village though. This is more than that. This is conspiracy with a capital “C” and Mulvaney and Perry are its co-conspirators with Sondland in the role of the village idiot.

Question for Sondland: he knew that the “Biden investigation,” and the collateral Crowdstrike-DNC server story were cooked up in the heated fever swamps of rightwing Reddit and 4chan boards, right? Where Russian troll farms feed conspiracy theories to the production assistants of crazy-ass AM talk radio hosts whom Stephen Miller listens to and which then end up in Trump’s twitter feed the next morning.

Some of these guys wouldn’t know how to add an app to their phone. It’s doubtful they spend much time immersed in the bowels of the internet. They’re not as savvy as you might expect.
