Shortly after Missouri Senate GOP candidate Eric Greitens’ (R) ex-wife surfaced domestic abuse allegations against him in court Monday, a handful of Republicans condemned the former Missouri governor, with some demanding he drop out of the GOP Senate race.
Translation, Greitens is beatable whereas the other candidates for the Senate seat are polling much better against a likely Democrat nominee.
That is according to the Republican Pollster “Trafalgar Group” Greitens is tied with Democrats whereas the other 2 Republican candidates are 15% to 20% ahead.
While this is a Republican pollster so I would not take it at face value, I do think Greitens is the most likely Republican to lose that senate seat.
It may be that all these Rs saying Greitens should drop out actually care that he has been repeatedly accused of physically abusing his wife, children, and mistress and are acting out of conscience. Or it may be that they know if he gets the nomination he might lose to the Dem in the general, just like Roy Moore.
Missouri is an odd place. It accounts, for example, for 70% of US lead production. It is the location of the Garden of Eden according to the Mormons. It’s like God did a free association when he created that place. Todd Akin attributed his rapey success to the Supreme Divinity. While political creatures like Greitens never go away, Missouri does produce a steady stream of “freak” deer-hunting accidents every year.
There is no reality in which GQP primary voters will punish a candidate for being violent or misogynistic or both. In fact, it might endear him to them. The condemnations are mere cover for the candidate who will stand far too good a chance of winning what once was a swing state on its race to the bottom.
Sen. Hawley supports Vicki Hartzler, who is not my Rep, but who started out as conservative Republican. Hell she used to hold town hall meetings with folks. Now she’s riding the crazy train.
Hey, we’re the middle of the country East to West, and North to South. The place where the confluence of two major rivers join, Missouri and Mississippi. So we’re sitting target for the crazy.
The GOP basically encouraged the crazy right wingers to vote for them, by taking positions and ramping up hysteria about things like abortion and “Christian rights” that would keep the crazies voting Republican. Now that the right wingers are taking over the party, they don’t want to take their own advice and “lie back and enjoy it” when they are being screwed over by the monster they created. Unlike a woman who is raped, the GOP really deserves that they are being subjugated by the hate they encouraged.
