With the country chomping at the bit for the COVID-19 vaccine, at least one red state governor is pushing the GOP to cut a deal with the Biden administration for more vaccine funding.

The need for a coordinate effort led by the Feds to defeat C19 was always the only choice and it’s nice to see a few Tepubs finally realizing it. I’d imagine the ball will keep rolling and more join in but the asshats are freaking cowards non the less.

Where the f
were they and what were they doing for last freaking year.

All I can say is thanks to the Biden team’s openness stuff is happening now and that’s what’s important.

How do I put this politely? Fuck 'em.

I SO want to slap their silly faces but
I want them to get vaccinated first. They gave in/enabled/lied about the virus for the past years and NOW they want ‘help’ because they ‘realize’ that a centralized, Federal response is better than leaving it to the crazies in your state legislatures
but THEN I want to shove it in their faces.

"But Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ¼ injected a dose of insanity into the discussion, inveighing last week against the prospect of “FEMA camps.”

“We don’t need more infrastructure,” DeSantis said, rejecting the need for more federal aid. “Let’s just get more doses.”

Isn’t this the state that just changed mid-stream because the pharmacy agreements were not working out?

“Arkanas Gov. Asa Hutchinson ¼, also head of the National Governor’s Association, said he was in favor of another federal aid package when asked about it on CNN Thursday.”

Yesterday was the Missouri governor’s state of state speech. Here is one sentence that is driving the blue dots here crazy.

Missouri has seen some difficult days in the past 200 years: from the Civil War and the Great Depression, women’s suffrage and civil rights, to the COVID-19 crisis and countless other hardships. But through it all, Missouri has prevailed.”

Some Senate Republicans have pushed to cut the amount of vaccine funding in the bill from $20 billion, saying that last month’s $8.75 billion allocated for the effort covered a chunk of what was needed.

GOP pols taking this position are dead meat when the P.1 mutant from Brazil hits their states.

From WaPo: The Amazonian city that hatched the Brazil variant has been crushed by it

Another surge was coming. This time, Uildéia Galvão thought they were prepared.

Galvão, the lead physician in the coronavirus ward at a public hospital in the Brazilian city of Manaus, had been haunted by the wave that crashed last spring. In less than 10 days, it ruptured the city’s bewildered medical system. Sick patients were turned away. The dead were piled into mass graves.

So Galvão’s hospital organized contingency plans. Additional beds were reserved, and a detailed schedule for opening them was created.

But the new surge, when it came, was different. The virus had mutated, with a suite of alterations that probably made it more transmissible — and perhaps more lethal. Manaus was hit by what scientists call the P.1 variant. This time, it didn’t take 10 days to overwhelm Galvão’s hospital. It took 24 hours.

We aren’t technically a red State, since our governor is a Democrat (who is routinely shut down by the GOP on mandates), but this is some research I’ve done:

Having a look at the Bloomberg vaccination tracker, the current report says Wisconsin is vaccinating at a rate of 18,405 doses per day. At that rate, with roughly 5.8 million people, we should fully vaccinated in this State by some time in December. And that’s just one dose - doesn’t necessarily get us all with two.

We’ve only used half the vaccine that’s been shipped here. We are nearly at the bottom of the list for percentage of supply used.

We need to demand better of our government and ourselves. This is crazy.
