Some GOPers Calmed Down After Biden Cleared Up Their Faux Infrastructure Brouhaha | Talking Points Memo

A few Republican senators on Sunday put their constant whining about Democrats’ commitment to passing both the bipartisan infrastructure deal and President Biden’s more progressive infrastructure priorities together through a reconciliation package aside, following Biden’s statement that clarified that he is not issuing the veto threat that Republicans have fear-mongered about for days.

Biden is something else. He’s got the Republicans singing his praises without essentially saying anything new or delinking the two bills for all practical purposes. It’s as if Republican Senators are oblivious (but Biden is not) to Speaker Pelosi, who wields enormous power and has her own veto over the bill.

Fear mongering is hard when it faces the truth.

It’s true you shouldn’t watch how sausage is made. Biden is giving more ‘moderate’ Republicans a way to be ‘bipartisan’ and avoid the charge they are nothing but the party of no even though, as a practical matter, the outcome will be exactly the same no matter what they do. Ditto for the more ‘moderate’ Democrats of course which is what they demanded as the price of ‘loyalty.’

On the one hand it kinda makes me want to barf while scratching my head and OTOH it’s weirdly fascinating.

Thank you. Moving that one word upfront would make the whole thing so much easier to read.

“So to be clear,” he continued, “our bipartisan agreement does not preclude Republicans from attempting to defeat my Families Plan; likewise, they should have no objections to my devoted efforts to pass that Families Plan and other proposals in tandem. We will let the American people—and the Congress—decide.”
… … …
We had an election. We already decided. But the Congress doesn’t hafta listen to us until shortly before the mid-terms. In fact they have a two weeks long recess coming in a few days. Just one of several during the year.

Yeah, I noticed that and can say categorically that this is the sort of abuse of the lyrical and melodious English language up with which I will not put!

This. Biden can promise not to veto it if he knows he won’t see it unless Pelosi lets it through. They apparently haven’t thought of that.

I’m thinking of submitting the sentence to the Guinness people for greatest distance between the beginning and ending of a phrasal verb.

That’s an award category, right?

They want the bill. They did not want to be made to look like fools. He gave them a little cover. Sinema knows how that works now too.

Speaking of Monday

Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, a vocal critic of COVID-19 vaccine mandates, announced plans to hold a news conference bringing together people who claim to have had adverse reactions to the vaccine.

Remember things that the crap republicans did to us citizens. The bullshit rule made up by Moscow traitorous Mitch to deprive US of Merrick Garland in the SC, the further installation of that drunken spoiled woman abusive Kavanaugh, then piece de resistance of another wholly biased woman against women and men in the last two weeks of Dumpfu*k’s regime. Destryed any hope before sea levels rise 10 feet higher than now of a fair ruling on human rights. And all the judges which clogged the bowels of the US Senate.

No, fuck the Republican fascist party. They bought into Trump, so please remember all that plus a thousand other as yet unpunished crimes against democracy.

Don’t overlook that the bipartisan infrastructure bill is what is holding Manchin and Sinema to participate and pass the reconciliation bill.
