A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things.
Capitol Police were ready for a potential Jan. 6 redux, 100 National Guard troops stood by, fences were installed, people bit their nails. … but Saturday’s pro-Trump “Fight for J6” rally at the Capitol, was by all accounts a complete flop.
Even professional trolls like Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who’s currently being investigated for sex trafficking
I think the FBI is following the “Larry Nassar Investigative Model” as to Matt Gaetz. Cue three years from now a trail of women wondering why the hell so many were abused for so long before something was done.
I suspect they learned a month ago that attendance was going to be poor. So they mopped that up with warnings not to go ( doesn’t mean much if no one was going anyway ) as an excuse for the inevitable poor turnout. They can spin it however they like. The facts are there in the photos. The thing was a massive dud.
I miss the period after W’s term expired, when self styled true conservatives practically tripped over themselves and each other trying to disavow the Shrub. The mental gymnastics of pretending the outcome of the policies they got what they wanted all along, was somehow a betrayal of their true conservative spirit instead of history’s most damning indictment. I’m still unsure why they aren’t throwing the bigger loser under a heavier bus.
And I HOPE the FBI has been investigating threats all along, but it is just now being announced. Although, I don’t see the logic in investigating on the down low. Seems like it might’ve helped suppress some of the activity if the FBI had been visibly and actively pursuing the assholes who are sending death threats to those defending the sanctity of the vote.
The semi-professional organized terrorists groups like the III%-ers, Proud Boys, and Oath Keepers caught a clue that their upper levels would be in legal danger if there was another round of violence in the shadow of the Capitol and stayed away.
The rest of the maroons who did show up are just sheep anyway, and without the wannabe-military prone-to-violence types to lead them the crowd was rather listless and pathetic. Like that Scut Farkus lookalike and the soon-to-be-relieved-of-his-duty fire captain.
Matt Braynard said that the event had raised over $800,000. Given the attendance, that’s well more than $1,000 per participant. I can’t imagine any of the participants getting a share of that money or one cent being used for the legal defense of the insurrectionists. I very much can imagine Matt Braynard driving a new BMW and buying a really nice vacation home. The donors and participants are just “marks” in this con; the Republican organizers and officials are the beneficiaries. This is Republican “justice”.
I just spent the weekend at the Tomahawk Fall Ride, an annual motorcycle event in northern, WI. I’m here to report the Trump flags are alive and well, along with the T-shirt I’ve understood the least: the image of RUMP’s face drawn onto Rambo, complete with bandoliers and blood red bandana, firing a deck-mounted machine gun with his bare hands.
How that serial bankrupt, New York City, VIP-lounge pussy grabber ever got remade as anyone remotely badass, is an unlikelier coup than the failed attempt he belongs in prison for.
That pathetic JforJ6 reminded me vividly of the Klan rallies at Indiana’s county seats in the 1990s. In my town there were about 100 KKK, 200 counter-protesters, and 400 cops. Inspired by the next county east, who led the way, all the downtown merchants closed their stores, and we had a town picnic in the park.
I’m sure there’s a lesson there somewhere.
Governor Hotwheels and his Repub lackeys in the Texas Lege set it up so that his hands are clean unless he chooses to be the one suing for damages. I wonder which sucker they’ll convince to do the honors.
