So Much For The Job Gains Trump Talked Up: Census Data Shows Employment Downturn | Talking Points Memo

For several weeks, real-time data has suggested that the economic recovery could be stalling in the United States. But new data from the Census Bureau on Wednesday reveals that employment has taken a significant hit and the economy could be declining again.

This is very misleading. The only reason we have these levels of unemployment is because we ask so many people if they’re employed or not.

At some point unemployment is gonna, sort of, just disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it’ll disappear.

Not surprising at all

Just under 52 percent of American adults were employed last week

Which means approx. 48% of American adults were NOT employed last week

AND yet…MoscowMitch LAUGHS when asked about passing new Covid aid!

How CALLOUS and CRUEL!

Never let facts get in the way of a good narrative.

His supporters don’t believe anything that doesn’t come out of his mouth anyway. The rest of us aren’t that stupid.

And the other part they don’t ask is, are you under-employed? I’ve been at 20% of my normal income since 1 June. No one asked me anything because I’m technically still employed.

A soulless shell who should be described as such.

McConnell does not “work” with anyone not Republican. He seeks to destroy both them and the people who voted for them.

McCaskill
Donnelly
Heitkamp
Nelson

All of the above’s presence would have neutralized this ghoul.

It will. In order to be counted as unemployed, you have to “actively” have sought work in the prior 4 weeks. “Actively” expressly does not include looking for jobs online, and requires applications.

So in a coronavirus-world, with shutdowns and a lack of job openings, we should see worker rolls going down, but the unemployment rate may actually start dropping, when there are no jobs to be had and people are stuck at home only looking online for work…

“Predicable and Predicted” will be the title of the book about this era.

This was several weeks ago:

The thing is, Covid-19’s resurgence was utterly predictable — and predicted. When Donald Trump declared that we would “transition to greatness” — which is to say, rush to reopen the economy despite a still-rampant pandemic — epidemiologists warned that this could set off a new wave of infections. They were right.

Some say we should begin circulating some form of the hashtag Trump Virus:

#Trumpvirus

I think it would be highly useful.

After the 1980 election, there was a rumor that the Reagans wanted the Carters to exit the White House early, after the election in November, but prior to the January inauguration. Do you suppose we could do something similar to that re: Fat Nixon and his crime family exit early in favor of the Bidens??

Gee, you mean the numbers, that were so obviously bullshit that some of us IMPLORED you not to publish them because they were so obviously bullshit, turned out to be bullshit? Wow, I’m fucking shocked.

This is a good point. Including discouraged workers, marginally employed, and part-time, you get to 18.1% unemployment (U6 measurement). The workforce participation rate is also informative, and has dropped +/- 3% since this began.

I keep telling anyone who will listen, lets see where we are in August. Obviously a new support bill will help tremendously, but the April-June data was just too extreme to really make any sense of. Unfortunately that’s the way it works, employment data is naturally lagging the truth on the ground.

Without another substantial aid package, things will likely become quite grim.

In Ariz applying for a job online counts. So we have that, even though there aren’t many jobs to look for and they require specific skills. Evictions and utility turn offs have been pushed back until Oct 31st Statewide.

Yes, applying counts, but you have to apply for something.

What happens when you didn’t apply because there are no jobs, which is hardly unexpected at a time like this.

I’ve been talking about this for a few weeks, but the July jobs report might end up being one of the worst we’ve ever had. The last report stopped data collection around June 15, which is just before the new spike started showing up in the stats.

It’s now almost certain to show that the economy has hit a wall and is declining while unemployment rises and the Feds do nothing (oh, they kidnap moms with masks).

I would expect Biden’s lead to grow into August in key metrics: trust on the economy, Latino support, which should send Trump and the GOP into a deeper hole.

The bodily language of the Trump Administration is that the virus will get worse in August, not better. With 2 million active corona virus cases in the system amidst a downturn, it’s a prescription for economic collapse.

Haha. Is this “Salting the mine”? I wonder how old DJT was when he realized Uncle Elmer wasn’t really stealing his nose.

The COVID-19 death rate is about to do the same thing to all of Trump’s victory claims about the declining number of deaths.
