Smith: Trump ‘Stands Alone In American History For His Alleged Crimes’ - TPM – Talking Points Memo

Special Counsel Jack Smith hit back at Donald Trump’s attempt to have the Jan. 6 case against him dismissed in a stark Monday reply, characterizing the former president as committing crimes without parallel in American history.

Smith is merciless in his dogged pursuit of mob boss Hair Furor.

And as Martha Stewart would say, “It’s a good thing.”

Trump’s superpower is his sheer gall. He has obviously no ability to feel shame or remorse.

cnn says there will be no cross exam of daddy trump cuz daddy is done testifying. Ivanka is next. Then the judge will decide the cost to the trumps. In any case donnie will not be pleased. He tried to turn today’s session into a trump circus. It can’t end well.

the case should be thrown out because of the prosecution itself was “selective” and brought for “vindictive” reasons.

Trump is the only former president the government is prosecuting, so in that sense it is selective. The case also shows a strong desire for revenge against the person who sought to overthrow the lawfully elected government, the rule of law, and the Constitution, so again, in that sense it is vindictive.

It’s a good thing Aileen Cannon is not the presiding judge in this case.

Jack Smith is very thorough and skilled and has the mind of a bear trap. Donald Trump is sloppy and reckless and has the mind of a two year old, and I am being kind…

Smith’s rebuttal to both motions-to-dismiss is 64 pages, but he acknowledges half-way down page 7 that he has already met the burden to have TRUMP’s frivolous motions denied:

The indictment plainly alleges the use of deceit, and the Court need not look further than that to deny the defendant’s motion to dismiss.

There are 57.3 pages left. I’m gonna need more popcorn.

Ah, Jack, tell us what you really think.

Don’t F around with a War Crimes Prosecutor; they have seen evil and know how to cut to the chase.

He and his family have always been yellow bellied cowards. Remember, the first Trump came to the USA from Germany to avoid the draft.

There’s a difference between “sharing opinions on election fraud” and “inventing rumors about election fraud then loudly and constantly promoting them.”

He and some of those around him envisioned a hypothetical situation with massive voter fraud, then acted like it was true, then used that newly minted “fact” to keep him in power.

Um, I thought that it was Devo who said that:

Trump knew there were armed individuals in the crowd and that they were not angry with him.

When the size of his crowd was smaller than he wanted he asked that the metal detectors be removed. When he was informed.that these folks were armed he said they weren’t angry with him.

So what did he know and when did he know it?

It would seem that he had been busy for months assembling the insurrection and the crowds to provide cover for it. Wild.

“But the defendant stands alone in American history for his alleged crimes,” Smith shot back in the filing. “No other president has engaged in conspiracy and obstruction to overturn valid election results and illegitimately retain power.”

The Defendant: “There’s never been any president who was such a stable genius as me who thought of doing that. The rest were all weak losers…and foolishly followed the law and the Constitution.”

“The defendant attempts to rewrite the indictment, claiming that it charges him with wholly innocuous, perhaps even admirable conduct—sharing his opinions about election fraud and seeking election integrity—when in fact it clearly describes the defendant’s fraudulent use of knowingly false statements as weapons in furtherance of his criminal plans,” Smith wrote

The guy has a wonderful way with words.

A ferocious rash would explain a lot. Especially because, in 75 years, it no doubt metastasized.
