Data shared earlier this week by U.S. Customs and Border Protection suggests the smallest and most vulnerable importers are being left behind in the early stages of the tariff refund process.  After the Supreme Court overturned most of President Donald Trump’s tariffs, which the president issued under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act, or IEEPA,…

That Donnie was a populist by any stretch of the imagination was, and continues to be, a damned lie. He just wanted votes, which he purchased by empty promises. He’s a fraudulent con-man, and will go to his grave as one.

This sounds like the classic Trump-shyster business model: “You wanna get paid? Sue me.”

Most won’t be able to afford a legal fight, and as a result many businesses will fold.

Running the country like a his business(es).™

Upon his leaving office, Trumps assets need to be frozen and where appropriate confiscated. He was never actually rich before this presidency, not a billionaire anyway.

“Smaller importers may not have the resources to coordinate with their customs brokers setting them up in CAPE, but they need to do this to receive refunds,” Mark Ludwikowski, who chairs the International Trade Practice at Clark Hill legal firm, told TPM. “They are often at a disadvantage not because they lack legal rights, but because the refund process assumes a level of administrative capacity that many of them do not have in-house.”

And the Epstein class does have the assumed level of administrative capacity in house. the rich get richer.

That explains his first victory (though Hillary won the popular vote) but his second one, that defies explanation.

If lutnick is/was buying tariff refunds then how is that money supposed to go back to the customers who often paid with increased pricing? Or is this just a windfall for corporate America (at least those who passed along the additional costs).

As someone affected by these. The system (ACE) is a pain in the ass to register for, but it’s definitely doable. I think it took me about 30-45 minutes. I was also swearing at the system the other day trying to pull a simple report on entry summary reports but that’s here not there.

CBP had wanted to shift to ACH for refunds instead of paper checks and it went into effect earlier this year (before the Supreme Court case). For this though you need to sign up for an account and set it up.

The biggest issue is many don’t know they have to do this. Their custom’s brokers should be making them aware and helping with that.

Studies from the Peterson Institute for International Economics showed 98% of the Trump tariffs from 2018-19 were absorbed by US firms and households.
