Originally published at: SignalGate Report Heads to Congress At Moment When GOP Is Feeling Not-So-Great About Our Secretary of War - TPM – Talking Points Memo
This week, Republicans in Congress are furrowing their brows very strongly about the Department of War’s approach to menacing Venezuela, including reporting from the Washington Post that found Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reportedly gave a verbal order to “kill everybody” aboard a vessel that the Trump administration attacked in September. Whether he spoke those words or…
Does this mean the Defense Dept is going to need a new Inspector General?
I heard that slurred, vulgar, filthy rant against Somalians and recalled fondly when we used to always, ALWAYS have Presidents who never came out in public and sounded like the overserved drunk ranting to himself at the end of the bar.
Apparently a few Republican congresspersons are beginning to “feel uncomfortable.” Brows may even furrow. But what we really and truly need is an impeachment AND CONVICTION (otherwise it doesn’t count), or at the very least, a 25th Amendment removal from office.
Because the guy ain’t right in the head. And it gets worse every day.
It is the Department of Defense and Secretary of Defense. Congress did not change the name.
edited to add: Those republicans speaking out appear to be doing a Sen. Collins…. clutch the pearls.
(yes, this was said by another poster for a previous article).
Uncomfortable. I wonder why?
But the tight margin of victory in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District was a potential warning sign for Republicans less than a year from the 2026 midterm elections…Van Epps…topped Behn…by single digits in a district that Trump won by 22 points in last year’s presidential election.
I can’t recall a case of virulent toxic masculinity playing out on a large stage as that of the loathesome-beyond-words Hegseth.
“Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) has suggested that a “violation of moral, ethical and legal requirements” may have taken place. Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) has categorized the incident as “wrong.” - probably the strongest word I’ve heard from Susan.
BTW, I read that the wife of the fisherman who owned and was on that boat is suing.
Retired Navy captain saying why war crimes are bad, m’kay. Says it shows top to bottom corruption of the military into “just following orders” when you force out the JAGs and Admirals who resisted it.
And to think that there are some evangelical “Christians” who believe that Trump was ordained by God to lead the United States?? It is mind boggling!!
How about Trump calling a female journalist piggy and a female member of Congress garbage?
“This refugee burden is the leading cause of social dysfunction in America, something that did not exist after World War II (Failed schools, high crime, urban decay, overcrowded hospitals, housing shortages, and large deficits, etc.),” he wrote. “As an example, hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over the once great State of Minnesota. Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for ‘prey’ as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone.”
Didn’t the regime run tracks like this during the campaign?
Venezuelans?
Further excesses of pet-eating Haitians, maybe?
Is this the case?
“I went to an Ivy League school, I’m very highly educated. I know words, I had the best words. I have – but there’s no better word than stupid.” - DJT, December 30, 2015
Pentagon is leaking more than a “drug” boat after a missile strike - WSJ article, tl;dr is Holsey forced out by Hagueseth and Caine for not being bloodthirsty enough. Mucho underbussing going on.
"In addition to Holsey, Col. Paul Meagher, the command’s top lawyer, known as a judge advocate general, was initially concerned about the ramifications for U.S. servicemembers, because targeting the alleged drug boats stretched the boundaries of the legal definition of combatants engaging in military hostilities, according to a third U.S. official and a former senior U.S. official.
Meagher didn’t respond to requests for comment about his concerns, which were previously reported by NBC News.
Tensions between Holsey and Hegseth led to a confrontation at the Pentagon in early October. Air Force Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, was also at the meeting, the former officials said."
Our tax dollars at work.
Good job, Republicans… SNICKER!
My active opinion is that they spent a lot of money and murdered a bunch of people so they could puff themselves up and strut their stuff.
I remember when the news reported on the My Lai Massacre, I was 9, and I remember thinking how could this be, we’re Americans, we don’t do something like that, we’re the good guys!
I don’t have quite the same level of disbelief, but it stills stirs feelings of shame and disgust, and even deeper hatred I guess for this gang of sociopaths, assholes, fascists, and idiots.
And the GOP in Congress, they deserve the biggest share of crap heaped on their gutless, miserable, un-American carcasses.
Every one of them should be removed from office and never, ever, allowed to be responsible for representing people in our society.
Oh, it’s only two guys, and they were bad dudes anyway. Yeah, yet, you murder one person in this country and you can face a death penalty. The entirety of the GOP in Congress are complicit in these crimes and they should pay the steepest price possible.
Highly educated? Unlikely.
The total number of Somalis living in Minnesota is about 80,000. It still bothers me that Trump can constantly and freely tell such obvious and intensely malignant and hate-mongering lies, and not suffer politically from it.
