House and Senate Democrats on their chambers’ appropriations committees have been saying for weeks that they want to negotiate bipartisan spending bills to keep the government open for the remainder of the fiscal year. The only thing they’ve requested in return — for their cooperation in helping to pass a short-term spending bill to keep…
Cadet Bone Spurs is a sad, pathetic, and hateful man.
Man it’s hard to keep track of where the f* everything is at any moment.
That, my friend, is a tactic of these insurrectionists.
Chuck: If we just give him everything he wants then he wont have to. Iam a genius!
So Democrats have insisted for weeks that, in order to get their help on any type of short-term spending bill to keep the government open, they’d need some assurance that Trump and Elon Musk will stop lawlessly shutting down agencies and ending funding for federal programs.
Republicans called the request a non-starter. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) even described it as “a violation of separation of powers.
… … … … … …
How is getting an unelected billionaire and his complicit president to stop illegally trampling on laws a republican Congress passed and running rough shod on Congress’s constituional powers a violation of separation of powers by democrats? It’s Musk and trump doing the violating.
As you know, the GOP lives in opposite world.
Apparently it’s because Trump has an Article 2 that lets him “do anything I want.” So he can’t possibly violate anything at all. And Elon is his sidekick and the richst person on Earth…so of course he can’t either…And everythng Democrats do is wrong. All the time. Everywhere. In fact, I think Jesus has said so. So there we are.
Also, logic has been completely abrogated. I think that happened a while ago, but I’ve been in denial for a while.
Odd that a country of 340 mllion and alleged to be the wealthiest country on Earth can be destroyed in about two months by nothing more than the personal immature pique of two wealthy raging assholes.
And yet it appears that it may be so.
Two people familiar with the conversations told Fox News Digital that President Donald Trump and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russell Vought are working on a strategy for impounding federal funds that Congress is expected to allocate this week, before the partial government shutdown deadline on March 14.
So you prevent a shutdown with the unclean CR, but he will impound all allocated funds- essentially shutting down the government. And the GOP will allow that…that’s real sharp. (not)
Ah I see the problem right here. You’re using words too big for our small minded Republicans.
Dems are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t. And Trump will do what Trump wants to do.
We’re totally fucked.
[Trump assured] Republicans, who have built their brand on never approving government spending, that his administration would pursue impoundment to not actually spend the money that Congress will have appropriated.
That’s how Republicans will balance the budget? They’re going to budget money they have no intention of spending.
Question. Why take it in the first place?
NOTE: Still no Republican talk of price reductions or tax cuts.
Good observation.
It appears to me we’re bending over backwards to accommodate privilege. In America, power begets privilege, and money begets power.
If they can do it to an asshole, they can do it to you.
Well, they outsmarted Chuck Schumer…
My guess is they don’t really care about balancing the budget any more than they ever do. But they do care about destroying the “administrative state” – which I think they see as the power base of liberals and progressives and the main tool liberals/progressives have used to get and hold power over the years. And in the past they’ve tried to loosen the left’s holdon power by constantly demanding a balanced budget with tons of cuts to admnistrative-state functions and portraying the left as money wasters, fraudsters and abusers that steal your taxes.
Connservative REpublicans have wanted to gut the administrative state for decades, of course, but I think they’ve seldom felt they had the opening to go right straight at it like the things that Don and Elon are doing and saying now.
SO my guess is they believe they have new much more direct routes to destroy administrative-state stuff like the New Deal and the financial and regulatory boards and such in what they seem to think has been a victorious declaration of Trump as the unitary executive – which is another word for dictator over the whole government.
They’ve clearly taken – and been handed – all of Congress’s supposed legislative power by the Republican majority. So I think Trump and company believe that that branch is effectively dead. And now they’re starting to boss around the judiciary more, looks like to me. Telling the SC what they need to do for dictator Donald. “Why thank you for helping me out, Little John Roberts.”
The days of trying to squash the left with a feeble tool like the budget is now unnecessary because Trump now believes he’s been empowered to stomp directly on legislative initiatives, since to him the legislature no longer exists as a meaningful actor in the system. He can simply stop things that laws – and even constitutional articles and amendments – were formerly supposed to get done. Looks to me as if he and his crew either really believe the power has already all accrued entirely to him…or else they believe that by acting as if it has they can bully everybody into letting him grab all of it that he doesn’t have already.
I may be in terminal paranoia here or something. I feel as if this may just be crazy talk. Yet given the stuff they’re saying and doing, I’m not sure it is.
One has to wonder if Hakeem Jeffries is pulling his hair out over this apparent defection and abdication. What would Hakeem do?
Simply he can only destroy and is jealous of those who have the ability to make it on their own.
He has had to pay people to dig his self out of all is failures.
No. That comes AFTER they pass a CR.
“Our tax cuts are infact cost neutral - after we revise the OMB numbers because of all this money weve already saved.”
And people might get a few hundred bucks…
