I fully expect to see dancing in the aisles of the chamber when 1 October comes around and the government completely shuts down. They’ve wanted this for years now and they will finally get it.

I’m not sure they have any interest in doing so. The whole hold up here has been caused by Freedom Caucus people attaching riders to these spending bills that they know cannot pass as stand-alone legislation. That’s not persuasion but brute force. Except that the GOP’s margin in the House is so narrow that that strategy’s not working. And so here we are.

They have no desire to win friends or influence people. They want to rule. No compromise. No bargains. Their way or nothing. The fact that they have mentioned deep spending cuts, increased order security and control of Executive Branch offices (to protect Trump) means they are not only unserious, but dangerously out of control. I’ve mentioned hostage-taking before, and that’s where we are. These Republicans are willing to hurt their constituents to save Trump ass from accountability.
EDIT: If the Republicans were serious, they’d write a freaking budget.

I’m surprised that Jeffries isn’t stepping up with a clean bill - as negotiated last Spring - and a discharge petition. It shouldn’t be that hard to peel away five or six Republicans. Do it today – while the narrative is all Republicans in disarray and if McCarthy and the rest won’t go along, it simply cements that the shut-down is all on MAGA.
