$500K For Election Subversion Tucked into a spending bill that is part of the deal to end the government shutdown is a provision that would allow GOP senators to personally sue the federal government for as much as $500,000 over Special Counsel Jack Smith’s lawful search of their phone records, according to the NYT. “That these dead shall have died in vain”.

Today is Armistice Day here in France. Most businesses are closed. A few boulangeries and the occasional café remain open.

An excerpt from Robert Grave’s Goodbye to All That, his magnificent mémoire of WWI to commemorate the day:

“Every night we went out to fetch in the dead of the other

battalions. The Germans continued indulgent and we had few

casualties. After the first day or two the corpses swelled and stank.

I vomited more than once while superintending the carrying.

Those we could not get in from the German wire continued to

swell until the wall of the stomach collapsed, either naturally or

when punctured by a bullet; a disgusting smell would float across.

The colour of the dead faces changed from white to yellow-grey,

to red, to purple, to green, to black, to slimy.“

Fight the authoritarians who would plunge us into ruin. And elect better Democratic candidates. Or we perish.

And remember, the best way to honor the dead is to read, to vote, to write, to resist, to show up. Because weak-kneed mother-fuckin’ surrender monkeys like Tim Kaine sure as shootin’ shit ain’t.

Another disappointing day in the obit report.

I want to know where I can donate to a fund for Jack Smith’s and James Comey’s legal defenses. As for the lawsuits, I assume they’re going to be against the government and so the Trump DOInJ will just settle and cut checks, as they’re trying to do with Trump. I’m just surprised that the law didn’t give the Senators the option to sue for a gazillion dollars.

Since April, DHS has stopped automatically capturing communications between officials and instead requires them to take screenshots of their messages

And of course they might “forget” to screenshot certain things.

So let’s call it “discretionary compliance.”

ETA: It’s like giving the cops a portable camera and telling them to take pictures of what they’re doing every so often, and then pretending it’s an adequate replacement for a badge-cam.

I’m surprised there’s any “legal” process at all since with DOJ on both ends of the claim, it’s just going to write a check (only after dotard gets his $230M or whatever he claims the cost of his hurt fee fees for the world telling him to fk off is . . . )

The language in the bill came directly from Senate Majority Leader John Thune

The Republican Congress is corrupt, just like the Republican Court and the Republican executive office.

The lawsuit crap means there’s not a single Dem in the Senate for whom I have any respect remaining. NOT. ONE.

For me this Veteran’s Day seems particularly poignant considering all of the freedoms lost in the US in only a few months. So many deaths and so much sacrifice and now thrown away to appease American oligarchs and their demented figurehead in the White House. With in fact the White House itself being literally destroyed before our eyes. My father was injured in Korea during the worst of the fighting there, a small town guy with a new wife pregnant with their first child when called up. But he never complained, considered it his duty. He died 2 years ago just short of his 94th birthday and his ashes interred at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio. I’m happy that he went before seeing what became of the country that he loved and served. And here’s a cat pic…….
