Chauvin does not have to look at minorities in prison.
Eight minority Ramsey County corrections officers have filed discrimination charges with the state’s Department of Human Rights after they were barred from guarding or having any other contact with former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin last month. As Chauvin arrived, all officers of color were ordered to a separate floor, and a supervisor told one of them that, because of their race, they would be a potential “liability” around Chauvin, according a copy of racial discrimination charges obtained by the Star Tribune.
The Uptown area is Yuppieville these days. Nothing like a few miles down Lake Street. The intersection of Lake St. and 35W used to be the hot spot for murders in Minneapolis. Generally speaking, North Minneapolis is the poverty area, predominately black. South Minneapolis also has areas of poverty, but with a more even mixture of poor white/black/Mexican/Asian. The area in question, Uptown, was gentrified in the 90s, and is a stark difference from neighborhoods just a few blocks away. It’s the ‘hip spot’ in south Minneapolis. Rocky Horror plays at that theater, for example. Uptown borders multimillion dollar homes in rich neighborhoods situated around Lake Calhoun (or whatever they call it these days). You want to see WHY these riots are taking place? Take a google maps walk down lake street, and see who has been left out. Dont forget to look at those homes around the lake, just a few blocks away.
Instead of a psychiatrist’s couch, where he might get the help he needs, he shares his neuroses with a crowd of strangers of Tulsa. P.S He’s not drinking Tulsa tap water either.
