The point of this rally may have been to ramp up these people to storm and disband vaccine sites, disrupt school board meetings, threaten and harass school board members, teachers, election board members, election workers, public health workers, reporters, all in both their public and private lives. Such actions have the potential to spread like the Delta variant, which is the point.
ter·ror·ist
a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. [Oxford English Dictionary]
Domestic terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature. [FBI]
Though I agree about many of their actions, I think the big picture is more complicated – they’re losing in terms of numbers and culture, but they’re winning at state houses across the country, and in the Supreme Court, and in the Senate. And they’re gaming the system to win even when they lose. They’re not going down without putting an enormous hole in the bottom of the boat, at minimum.
Judging from the picture, the perp is associated with the little known domestic terror organization, the “Detachment of the White Peoples’ Dad-bodied Brotherhood.”
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of an attack on a Record-Eagle reporter while covering an anti-mask, anti-vaccine event at a township park Thursday evening.
Yes …
an event at a township park … a public place!
The Thursday evening event took place at Silver Lake Recreation Area in Garfield Township.
Silver Lake Recreation Area on East Silver Lake Road includes three picnic pavilions which can be reserved in advance for a fee and the anti-mask, anti-vaccine event was held in one of these pavilions, information posted online shows.
Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Noelle Moeggenberg said while the pavilion may have been rented by a private group for a private function, the area around the pavilion remains open to members of the public, including news reporters.
“That’s an open area, its open to anyone,” Moeggenberg said. “I could go and walk my dog there even though they’ve rented the pavilion, and potentially be hearing what they’re saying and they wouldn’t have any recourse.”
Inspired by John Ganz (aka lionel_trolling on Twitter) I’ve been reading about the French Third Republic, and man is it depressing how close the similarities are. A political class that treats governing as a fun game and is forever handicapped by its own rules, with no one able to get anything done about problems everyone knows about; a screwed up electoral system that allows minority rule in what’s supposed to be a democracy; an upper class that views paying taxes as the absolute worst thing in the world and will destroy anyone who tries to raise them; increasing political street fighting; declining patriotism to the point people view government by the opposition as worse than occupation by a foreign power; it goes on and on.
Nope, it feels like we’re caught in a standing wave, where two waves of similar amplitude and frequency meet head on. Where the waves meet, there’s lots of turmoil. Generally speaking, they tend to cancel each other out and wipe the slate clean for the next wave to leave its mark.
