Sheriff Investigating DeSantis’ Migrant Plot Bombarded With Threats

The Texas sheriff who’s been investigating Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R) scheme to fly migrants in the Lone Star State to Martha’s Vineyard has been allegedly slammed with threats ever since he announced the probe on Monday.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1433040

A spokesperson at Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar’s office told Vice on Tuesday that the official, whose jurisdiction includes San Antonio, has been getting “numerous threats” and that there’s been “an influx of calls to our dispatch and administrative offices, along with hateful emails received.”

Sounds like Sheriff Salazar has a lot more crimes to investigate.

Some future public defenders are going to have to explain to their clients that emailing threats to a Sheriff’s office is a really dumb idea. Also that they should accept the plea deal.

Typical behavior - when one wants to know why establishment GOP won’t stand up to these folks. Lives may be at stake.

Posted this in another thread this AM:

If you cross Trump and MAGA world it could very well result in physical harm, to you and those you love. Militias and crazies will show up at your home, your business, your children’s schools, your spouse’s workplace. All manner of harassment, threats, vandalism and disruption of your personal and professional life may come your way.

My guess is that these threats will only encourage him to investigate this case more thouroughly.

A blame those chairs with a handle that helps you get up. They have changed the face of American politics.

Reform social security and workers’ comp and half these people will die in those chairs.

It strikes me as particularly stupid to threaten law enforcement, ya know, the people who actually lock people up. And it’s even dumber to threaten law enforcement over potential charges against someone else, someone you don’t even know personally. I hope they put all their asses in prison and throw away the keys.

No disagreement with that, but what’s the difference between LEOs that are on the side of the law, vs. the LEOs that are on the side of the minions? We already know there’s a significant portion of LE that is on the side of the minions.

And any plea deal should include at least some jail time. Threats of violence against anybody have to be dealt with seriously and violent threats against public officials for doing their job should be considered as violent threats against our system of governance.

Gee, wouldn’t it be nice if this Sheriff’s Office, or say the Federal Bureau Investigation, had some way of investigating and prosecuting these threats?

Something like a sworn duty to do so…?

And the means and authorization to carry out that duty?

I admit it’s a pipe dream…

Geez, get a better picture of DeSantis up there! He actually looks relatable and trustworthy in that one (no mean feat!).

Not only are The Deplorables™ deplorable, but they are pretty stupid to threaten police/sheriff personnel in a way that can be traced back to them. Fascism doesn’t attract the best and brightest.

Turned on MSNBC - Biden is still speaking - will Letitia delay her announcement until Biden’s speech is completed? He’s pretty much on fire, to be honest…

ETA: MSNBC says the press conference is ‘soon’.
