Shell Workers Who Skipped Trump Speech Took Financial Hit | Talking Points Memo

“NO SCAN, NO PAY.”

That’s what workers for a Shell contractor were told ahead of speech by President Donald Trump on Tuesday at Shell’s petrochemical plant in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Friday.

“This was treated as a paid training day with a guest speaker who happened to be the president.”

And what, exactly, were they being trained to do?

PTO usually is the equivalent of a vacation day, which workers have a limited number of. That sucks. Who does that? Who approved this? Ugggh, the depths to which Trump apologists and butt-kissers will sink.

This gives me a slow, burning kind of anger. What is Shell being offered to do this?

“This was treated as a paid training day with a guest speaker who happened to be the president.” Oh, hey look! The President of the United States just “happened” to show up for our training day. Corporate spokesmen, man.

Try, “This was treated as a paid training day where the training happened to involve armed robbery.”

Apparently, this type of coercive tactic is just the ticket for avoiding the dreaded #EmptySeatMAGATour. And you know how much Prez Tiny Hands hates those empty seats.

I remember we had a day of diversity training that included education about weight discrimination and sizism. This was likely that.

I guess I’ll have to stop buying my gas at Shell…

Guess it’s all about the overtime for lots of people. I would have taken the day with no pay, thanks very much. I don’t think of union workers as being a bunch of rabid Rethugs, but times could have changed.

This is sickening. Workers were required to show up at 7 am to scan in (“NO SCAN, NO PAY,”) and stand for 7-9 hrs without lunch for Lardass to show up and speak. If you did not scan, you HAD to take paid time off or no pay, and were docked for the 16 hrs of overtime/week specified in their contract (56 hr work week). “No yelling, shouting, protesting or anything viewed as resistance will be tolerated at the event."

All to make Lardass look good on a project started in the Obama admin.

Pittsburgh Shell plastics plant. The facility will turn natural gas from fracking into polyethylene pellets. Announced in 2012 and started in 2015, the plant has produced about 6,000 construction jobs, with 600 permanent jobs expected.

“It was the Trump administration that made it possible. No one else. Without us, you would never have been able to do this.”

Dude…the older ones in the trades have been in the GOP since Reagan. He convinced them it was the only manly thing to do. They bought it.

This is currently the most direct and effective way to get messages to the people responsible for funding this madness. If you see this hitting other bottom lines, you’ll keep your distance, too.

@losamigos

I wonder how many showed up, were scanned in then walked out a side door?
