Or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. He’s also probably not freely practicing the right religion.
Also: the decline of civics education. And the perversion of the Constitution that goes along with it, like people who claim that the Bible means “X” when it’s just their personal interpretation.
Perversely, this is good news. The markets need to signal loudly and strongly that Trump tariffs are an economically disastrous idea for the US economy. Backed up by business leaders in affected industries and state and local officials where the damage is being done (since R congresscritters cannot be relied upon to speak up).
Trump is being driven by his power hunger, but mostly he needs the tariff revenue to bolster the government revenue line and counter the impact of tax cuts for the rich. It’s a fiction, since the tariffs are paid by consumers and businesses, but half truths are his currency.
I’ve been trying to figure out who I should buy my crap from (assuming it’s necessary, like razor refills) since I’m trying to stop using Amazon. Been thinking of a) a Costco membership – though my household is just my wife and me – and b) actually using Temu, since China is where Amazon gets the crap from, too.
I’ve noted this before, but this whole thing reminds me of Hemingway’s quote about going bankrupt - very slowly, then all at once. The rot has been in the system since at least Nixon, accelerated under Ronnie, given 'roids under Bush v Gore, Citizens United, and Presidential Immunity by the Supremes.
On the way to destroying them, the oligarchy needs to be made to feel regret…oh so much regret…OBSERVABLE regret that we can savor…because they are incapable of feeling true shame, guilt or remorse. We should all want to watch them writhe and flail as they realize it was we who held their leash all along, not vice versa.
