Senate Takes Step Toward Passing COVID Bill And GOP Begins Its Procedural Warfare | Talking Points Memo

With Vice President Kamala Harris casting the deciding vote, the Senate took a procedural step Thursday toward passing the Democrats’ sweeping $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill. Now begins the several hours — and possibly several days — of Republican parliamentary maneuverings that will delay the final Senate vote on the legislation.

I don’t really care how juvenile it will seem, but the next time those GOP motherfuckers pass a tax relief bill the Democrats better make them read the whole thing before any debate can take place.

Nobody says they have to read the bill sequentially, just that the entire thing needs to be read. So if they can find a hundred clerks, we can have this done in under 5 minutes. Just sayin’

There should be a tsunami of phone calls to every GOP Senator’s Office on these shenanigans.

There should be a public airing of this phenomenon.

After all…that’s news too, besides Team Trump’s latest stunt.

So amend the bill so that eligible Democrats get their stimulus payments immediately, and GOP voters have to wait an extra week for each hour that RonJon and his traitorous pals stall approval.

I was actually hoping they could get away with having the clerks tape reading it all, then playing it back at 100x speed on the Senate floor.

FEMA would like to give out these bottles of water immediately. But first, I’d like a table reading of this script I wrote on spec for the next Fast and Furious movie.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) requested the reading of the bill…

Senator Johnson, Rand Paul, and every Republican should be required to listen to it. Should even one of them leave, fall asleep, or look at their cellphone, the reading should immediately terminate.

Do your job. Your job isn’t to play games.

Johnson is utterly pathetic.

But then again, just about all of them are.

Federal investigators are examining communications between US lawmakers and Capitol rioters

Federal investigators are examining records of communications between members of Congress and the pro-Trump mob that attacked the US Capitol, as the investigation moves closer to exploring whether lawmakers wittingly or unwittingly helped the insurrectionists, according to a US official briefed on the matter.

The data gathered so far includes indications of contact with lawmakers in the days around January 6, as well as communications between alleged rioters discussing their associations with members of Congress, the official said.

The smart ones will get ahead of the curve.
