Senate Includes ECA Reform In Year-End Spending Bill

After months of negotiations, it now appears to be official: The Electoral Count Reform Act has hitched a ride on the much-anticipated 2023 omnibus funding package that was released Monday night, setting up a path for the legislation to pass the Senate.

Secret Congress strikes again!

At least a few Republican elected officials deign to do their jobs and serve the country, so long as a camera isn’t on them to get them in trouble with their feral base.

Dems, getting shit done.

After that red wave, the base is nursing a bit of a hangover.

It’s imperative even.

I sure hope they can get this bill to the President’s desk ASAP. I dread the thought of waiting for the GOP-led House to do anything for the next two years.

GOP-lead house doing anything? I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

This is great. Now codify Roe.

The efforts by former President Trump’s team to take advantage of the 135-year-old law included falsely claiming that then-Vice President Mike Pence had the power to unilaterally throw out elector votes during the official certification process.

This pretty much sums up the Administration of our Con Man President. The law was written over a centuary ago and pretty much forgotten because until the Orange POS showed up no revision was needed. Whether D or R no President ever contemplated setting up a dictatorship. Sadly his legacy may embolden future Presidents with more brains and ruthlessness to do the same.

Kevin McCarthy showed how weak he is because he told the Republican Senators if they vote for this bill, when he is Speaker, he will not bring any of their proposed bills to the House floor for a vote. That right there shows he has not sealed the deal on getting the job of Speaker of the House. He is down to threatening Senators because they cut him out of the negotiations and his own caucus will not listen to him.

This needs to pass before Friday and, if it doesn’t, they need all of them to stay in DC until they do pass it.

This nonsense of last-minute funding of the government needs to end. It won’t with the next House, but it needs to.

And even better if we can plug up the holes in the election process at the same time.

And, of course, the bastards on the Reich will filibuster. Because of course they will.

Human trash - hopefully NOT to the last man. We need 10 decent RepubliQans - but that’s a heavy lift.

The penalty for that is that the Senate stays in session through the holiday weekend. Schumer is in charge still and that needs to be front and center to this discussion.

You wanna filibuster - then you lose the holiday. Senate is still in session.

And now, this:

Kevin McCarthy on Twitter: “Agreed. Except no need to whip—when I’m Speaker, their bills will be dead on arrival in the House if this nearly $2T monstrosity is allowed to move forward over our objections and the will of the American people.” / Twitter

Of course, one of those GOP senators backing the omnibus is Mitch McConnell.
