Originally published at: Senate GOP’s Reconciliation Bill Sets a ‘Very Bad Precedent’
Senate Republicans’ reconciliation package in its current form includes billions of dollars for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), effectively providing funding for those agencies until the end of fiscal year 2029. If the reconciliation package becomes law, the funding — combined with the money from last year’s One Big…
Obligatory kitty, chosen expressly for this topic:
“Funding ICE and CBP through the reconciliation process is “undercutting the appropriations process,” William Hoagland, senior vice president for the Bipartisan Policy Center, told TPM.”
Taxation without appropriate debate. Running America like the president’s criminal organization. Just in time for “America 250” celebrations. Yay.
The solution is obvious: Democrats need to eliminate the filibuster completely in January 2029 to pass their agenda. For the MAGA party, the filibuster only exists to help them. KILL IT
I thought border crossings was getting lower and lower (from the so called all time high under Biden), so why does the BP need such a influx of money now?
If the reconciliation package becomes law, the funding — combined with the money from last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) — will be enough for ICE to operate at quadruple capacity for the next three and a half years. And the funding for Border Patrol, again combined with OBBB, will be more than enough to run it for the next three and a half years.
IOW it will be more than enough money to ensure La Mancha de Mierda Naranja’s private army will be adequately funded to complete his overthrow of the US Government.
Fun Fact: The Spanish word for skunk is “zorrio.”
(The Spanish word for fox is “zorro.”)
The entire agenda of the MAGA/GOP sets a 'VERY BAD PRECEDENT." It is a virulent cancer on the body politic.
How the Senate GOP’s Big Funding Bill Sets a Very Bad Precedent’
If MAGA/GOP can’t be trusted to govern in a manner that doesn’t set a bad precedent, they cannot be trusted. What they’re doing is enabling a dictator. Afterward, they’ll exclaim “why didn’t you say something.” MAGA/GOP will say this phrase knowing they’re lying and knowing the rest of the world knows that they are lying. They will proclaim ignorance despite that their grandchildren and everyone else will know these handful of betrayers sold out the world.
MAGA/GOP will express their having been fooled too. We know that they weren’t. They think they still have face to save. They’ll think that they’re getting away with it.
Not sure how any regime can that amount of harm to nearly 300, 000,000 million voters and get away with it. Fox News won’t pay those voters the money the voters lost with these MAGA/GOP fraud professionals at the helm of this administration. Somebody has to pay - it’s the slogan of the 47th US presidency.
it’s long past time to acknowledge that our legislature is a total disaster, unfit for use. Parts of the Constitution (Bill of Rights, Reconstruction Amendments, etc.) are great, but the whole thing is a mess, hundreds of years out of date and holding us hostage at this point.
“Using the party-line reconciliation process to fund these controversial agencies sets “a very bad precedent,” experts tell TPM, threatening future appropriations negotiations and undermining congressional oversight. It is yet another example of congressional Republicans weakening their own power by trampling on Congress’ power of the purse.”
… … … … … … … …
I have lived basically within sight of the border (from my roof) for 46 years. I crossed the border many many times. Until the “time of trump” beginning in his first term CBP and ICE who greeted me on my crossings were always friendly and never threatening. I have given up any thought of getting near the border these days and I place the blame on that racist in what is left of the White house…see for yourself…
And also a very bad president.
Looking at the images of the White House that I posted just up thread puts in a stark visual way the difference between republican and democrat presidents and their administrations
