The Manchin/Capito blue hydrogen initiative is DOA. The big hydrocarbon producers like Saudi and Russia want to lock in blue hydrogen, but most advanced economies are already looking at green hydrogen solutions that obviate incumbent hydrogen producers that donāt come along. Battery storage has its limits, as does distribution of electrons, so portable fuel in the form of hydrogen will be key in a decarbonized economy. The race right now is to lower the price of hydrogen to below the price of natural gas. Several forms of producing clean hydrogen are nuclear (pink hydrogen), green hydrogen (electrolysis of water with renewable processes), and yellow hydrogen (electrolysis exclusively from solar). The lobby race is to make sure green hydrogen legislation is drafted by the incumbent hydrocarbon industries, so coal (gray or brown hydrogen) and gas (blue hydrogen) are treated as somehow part of the decarbonization effort.
