The Senate confirmed Rep. Deb Haaland (D-NM) in a 51-40 vote on Monday as the U.S. interior secretary, a historic feat marking Haaland as the first Native American to serve as a Cabinet secretary and to lead the federal agency that holds large influence over the country’s tribes.
If Collins indeed voted for Haaland, she is truly an example ‘a broken clock is right, twice a day’. Not to be snarky - but her support for Sec. Haaland was truly a no brainer. If she had opposed she would have less than zero credibility.
Several weeks ago I read or heard that in normal, peaceful transitions of power the incoming President gets some of his cabinet Secretaries ready to be sworn in before the President is, and others also having gone through the process ready to be sworn in after the inauguration.
But now we can’t have nice things.
I am exhausted, but I am sooo happy to hear this. She is a totally awesome person, who has worked hard for others her entire life. She deserves the best, and will give it in return.
I’m exhausted because I spent an hour this morning in my PT for TBI and Vestibular issues, then went home and mixed soil for the new raised beds for peas and beans in the garden, went to get a yard of county compost for the garden beds, spread that, and just finished making supper (it’s in the oven). I can read the paper, check the mail, and relax for a bit. Early to bed. Tomorrow, I volunteer for helping county folk get their vaccines at local, trusted facilities. I need to be rested and ready.
The news about the confirmation of the new Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland, was the boost that surpasses everything. WOOO HOOO!
I am already looking at flights! Thanks for the good wishes, Tena.
Honestly, I cannot tell you how emotional I am today (although I think you know). I am in that place between laughter and tears. And relaxed in a way that I don’t remember for ages (except the day Biden was sworn in).
