Sen. Whitehouse Asks Roberts To Do Something, Anything About Alito - TPM – Talking Points Memo

I still resent the hell out of the Bernie voters who gave the presidency to the criminal instead of to the most qualified candidate either party has ever put forward.

The Roman Catholic Church 's history is one of horror. They have held people’s minds hostage with their absolute insistence that you believe what they tell you or perish for eternity in hell. Yes, people should be smart enough to see that this is utter bullshit, but when the prelates are as powerful as kings, and they have intentionally kept people ignorant, it is asking a lot of gullible people ( this sounds familiar to what we are seeing today) Other sects and “religions” have learned from the Catholic business model that they can exert power and gain riches by doing the same thing. Organized religion ie: Churches/Temples/Synagogues are inherently oppressive entities that interfere with man’s spiritual growth. As far as I have seen, “religion” makes more people evil and hateful, than lifting them up to be better human beings.

I’m nominally a RC, quit it decades ago. I wasn’t shocked to discover pedophiles, but was shocked at the extent of this behavior

I can’t believe how naive I have been in thinking that the SC was an island of honor and decency in an ocean of city, county, state corruption.
Dante tells us that betrayers of the public trust go to the 9th Ring of the Inferno where the worst and condign punishments are meted out. Dante does not like treachery.

You’re right. And it is a valuable exercise, if only to focus the mind, put things in perspective and calm you. I ask my long departed mother for help all the time. Sometimes it works. Other times, things I didn’t expect end up happening, but somehow turn out to be what I needed if not what I wanted.

When I was, I think 11 or 12, I remember all the altar boys telling the rest of us which priest or monsignor to avoid, to never be alone with. You’re going to tell me that the fucking NY Archdiocese didn’t know what pre-teen boys did? Either they knew and were completely complicit, or they didn’t know and they were completely incompetent. One or the other.

They HAD to have known, something occurring over so long a period.
Adult gay behavior, too. I recall reading an anecdote by a man who had been a West Point cadet at the time. Famous cardinal Spellman stuck his hand down the cadet’s trousers at the dinner table. The cadet kept quiet until Spellman passed away. (The cadet was not gay.)

Wow I understand your sincerity but that was seriously not the way I was raised.

The people who have responded to my earlier question are also appreciated.

My point is (was?) that I was curious ‘why’ the Catholic Church is the big bugaboo for many of you (us?) here.

I know that all of you, this has been your experience. It just has not been mine. And I do feel like the Catholic Church stands in for ‘all’ religions, just as the most prominent. I myself was surprised that Hindus in India and Buddhists in Myanmar murdered Muslims. I just never ‘thought’ that Hindus or Buddhists (to me the biggest surprise) would commit violence against other religious groups.

I am very glad you all responded in a manner respectful to my obvious ‘leanings’ in this regard. I don’t feel ‘singled out’ at all. Thank you.

Heretofore, it was safe to assume that the court was honest and apolitcal. The greedy Rethugs have destroyed that also by packing the court with rightwing assholes. Just another part of democracy that they have gutted in their campaign of destruction.

It’s so flagrant and unabashed, one would think so, but after June 6 I don’t know. Don’t doubt some members of SS and FBI were complicit.
