Sen. Republicans Admit They Don’t Want Jan 6. Commission Because It Could Color Midterms

Senate Republicans are candidly admitting their political calculus in opposing a January 6 commission: they don’t want it to encroach on the 2022 midterms, during which they worry it would be “weaponized politically.”

“I also think it’s important that this be independent and nonpartisan and that means that we should make sure that the work is done this year, and does not go over into the election year,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) told reporters Wednesday afternoon. “There’s plenty of time to complete the work.”

Translation: Let’s get this done quickly and on the down low, or drag it out past the midterms, but giving this the time it obviously deserves is a non-starter.

Of, course if the Repubes were on the other side of this, they would not hesitate to “color the midterms”. Maybe they should’ve agreed to this earlier, so the investigation would be done by that time. Tough shit.

Simply not fair to go ahead with a Jan 6th commission when there are still 30,000 e-mails on Hillary’s server that we have yet to see.

Sort of like the FBI investigation of Kavanaugh: a pro forma display designed not to find anything serious.

I need a bracing slap by Emiliano4 … because I feel like they’re winning. But maybe it’s just all the sapping of media oxygen, which is probably the same thing.

Republicans make valiant stand against accountability for their seditious actions.

“The great enemy of truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived and dishonest – but the myth – persistent, persuasive and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the cliches of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." – John F. So, 4 months of negotiating … was pure bad faith foot-dragging. I guess we knew that but thanks for confirming Thune.

GQPers are dumbstruck at the possibility that voters will learn how they, as a party have attacked and seriously damaged our freely elected government, and in the process they want to attack it further.

Yeah, coupla slaps upside the head oughta do it.

Chill, they’re in a lose-lose situation on this. Successfully block a commission or refuse to play ball, and the media interest becomes “what are you hiding”. And the media loves to play what are you hiding with politicians.

Participate enthusiastically, and end up with several of their folks named as direct co-conspirators with Rudy and Jr and Roger Stone who were the ringleaders of the whole operation.

Don’t remember which R it was but I remember a time when one of them gave a tearful “flag is falling” plea when they wanted to fuck Bill Clinton? in the ass.

As per an “investigation” of the treachery of trump on 1/6/21…

So, saying a truth out loud is weaponizing reality. Got it.

I don’t get it. January 6 is already politically weaponized, and will remain so for infinity. There will still be DOJ and other investigations, Congressional committee hearings, lawsuits, and the like, this year and next, at the very least.

In these circumstances, an independent, bipartisan commission would actually help the Republicans. They could point to it and say let’s just wait for the report. They wouldn’t have to be on the defensive as much, wouldn’t have to answer as many questions, could just keep filibustering like they do.

Right now, their excuses for voting against the proposed commission sound lame and look worse. They are not winning hearts and minds over this.

Congrats!

I’ll be able to in a week but I need to print a “VAXXED” t-shirt so people won’t think I’m an idiot.
