Sen. Bill Cassidy Loses Primary to Two Challengers

Originally published at: Sen. Bill Cassidy Loses Primary to Two Challengers

The Republican primary race for Sen. Bill Cassidy’s (R-LA) Senate seat is headed to a runoff next month. But Cassidy won’t be a part of it. The two-term senator went down in defeat Saturday to two MAGA challengers, Rep. Julie Letlow (R-LA) and Louisiana state treasurer and former congressman John Fleming. None of the candidates…

When do Republicans grow a whole spine? You might as well, since possessing only a couple of vertebrae, as Cassidy did, gets you the same result. Grow a whole spine and a pair of testicles so you can sleep at night would be my advice.

The wheels on the bus go round and round.

Thank you for RFK Jr. Dr.

Cassidy. What a cuck. He traded his reputation for nothing. Hopefully his humiliation is a turn on him. Those jollies were expensive. Presumably he’s getting off on what’s happening to him.

Any normal human would feel a profound sense of relief escaping the TrumPublican shitshow. Granting Cassidy the benefit of the doubt in that regard, maybe he feels a bit of relief now too. Possibly a stretch given how long he served the cause of evil – he is a conservative after all – so FWIW

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. – Frank Wilhoit

It’s not politics, Bill, just cult of personality. Talk to the Ballroom.

The consensus is that Cassidy was on the shit list for voting to impeach Trump. However, as one of the few doctors in Congress, he was also a target for fighting the gig economy embraced by the US medical-industrial complex, mining people for pure wealth extractive purposes. Trump will only be happy when all workers are independent contractors without portable benefits. I have only heard that this is a thing in Colorado, but apparently a national issue.

Cassidy pushed for portable benefits to allow gig workers in various sectors, potentially including freelance nurses and gig workers, to carry health and retirement benefits across different jobs without being classified as traditional employees.

The new name for the Republican Party is the Donner Party. The cult just “cannot quit” Donnie.

I’m afraid all the GOPers in Washington, seeing this, will simply double down on the choice they’ve made: Trump is my only hope for survival. There are no spines left to grow there, no residual tissue from which to regenerate. I guess the real question is when will Republican general election voters grow a spine? The primary voters are all cultists, but unlike in Congress there probably are a few (let’s say 5%) sane, democracy-willing people left in the broader GOP voting base, and their help would make a difference.

Cassidy did this to himself, so don’t give credit to Trump. Remember he can run as an Independent and still winl. It’s Louisiana.

Yeah, but it is Louisiana. Don’t get much redder! Way down the end of the old AM dial.

I am thrilled to see Cassiday, who gave us RFK, Jr, humiliated.

And when the wheels do fall off, what will the Democrats do:

Have a laugh while pissing on the wreckage, or

Help put the wheels back on the bus b/c it’s the ‘right thing to do.’

I hope the republicans win a whole lot of primaries with right-wing MAGA nutjobs. I don’t think that’s what “normal” voters want in the general. So, bring it on. But, assuming the republicans somehow stay in control, it’s not like functionally things can get worse. Honestly, really, weirder and more up Trump’s butt is not what financially suffering people want at this point.
