I knew your heart was in the right place. Now get busy polishing the brass - and don’t breathe on it!
Great article; it’s making me sick to my stomach. And it should make 99% of every other American sick to their stomachs as well. This is one of the Primary reasons I vote against Republicans.
Me, too, pilgrim.
$225M in tax breaks for only $27M worth of donations.
No wonder they bought a RoJo of their own.
How is this not bribery?
Some fool SCOTUS ruled that “money is speech”.
Job creators creating jobs.
Money is speech the same way electricity is music.
First things first. The sunset expiration of giveaways must always be referred to as the Trump Tax Increases. To make the giveaways permanent is to Repeal the Trump Tax Increases. Repealing the Trump Tax Increases on billionaires should be about the lowest priority imaginable.
Articles like this are the reasons why, when I look at general-purpose, Rump loving activists like, say, the “Second Amendment Sanctuary” twats with SWAT rifles who are gearing up to make their anti vaccine, anti mask voices heard at our next school board meeting, I say their anger is well justified but their target selection is 180 degrees backwards.
This is a very interesting analysis, sir, but I stopped reading because it needs the intervention of a copy editor to straighten out the misspellings, dropped words, etc., after which readers might be able to understand the details.
Money–that is, money spent on bribing congressmen–is a special kind of speech that has a greater return on investment.
I’m wondering whether this Pro Publica analysis will make any waves in the greater news media or whether it will get buried as the right wing cries out that a great crime has been committed by someone in revealing the details of some wealthy families’ tax returns. Hoping the Treasury Dept. does not carry out a witch hunt against its employees. Hoping that Democrats in Congress use it as an example of why the Trump Organization’s tax returns must be delivered to the committee chaired by Congresswoman Maloney.
or the Ukraine?
Look, what’s the point of even having money if you can’t buy a bunch of legislators with it?
That’s “common wisdom”, but as it turns out, the Citizens’ United case really just said that even wealthy people are allowed to engage in political speech. Under the previous law, over-turned by SCOTUS, people and groups with large quantities of money were literally prohibited from buying ads, billboards, and such within a certain timeframe ahead of an election. Even though it had lasted some time, that rule was a clear violation of the First Amendment. It’s an ugly problem, but the now overturned law was a poor solution, and needed to be overturned.
Let your senators know to support Senator Wyden’s bill!
Lifelong job opportunities for scullery maids and boot blacks!
Just FYI, and I may be stepping outside the bounds of my personal knowledge here a bit, but I’ve heard that Ukrainians prefer just “Ukraine.” “The Ukraine” is a hold-over from the Soviet days; one they’re eager to put behind them.
but Putin seems to wish revised…
