I think I read some time ago that tRump lowered the qualifications and eliminated criminal background checks on hiring of border patrol in general when they began upping their assaults on these immigrants crossing the border. It could have been ICE though. I can’t remember. Probably both.
There should be no surprise that the number of pedophiles being hired or any other type of criminal behavior under the radar has increased as a result of lowering the bar for employment in this area of our government.

If your job is to do something horrible to another person, you are well served by dehumanizing them. Military generals have known forever that to talk someone into killing an enemy requires that you first convince your soldiers that the enemy are not human beings.
Well Trump is using the border patrol to advance his and his supporters views of immigrants. Border patrol members have a strong need to dehumanize the brown people they encounter in their efforts to please Trump and his supporters. This Facebook Group helps with that process. The racist jokes make it just that much easier to drag children away from their parents and to stand outside cold cages and watch infants beg for momma or a warm bed.

It may have been longer than his tenure. The Border Patrol and ICE have been operating like a totally separate entity from other LEOs. Like someone’s private army, they seem to have no concern about their image or real repercussions. From the reporting, they have a high disdain for oversight to the point of being insulted when it happens. Dangerously arrogant. That is my opinion.

The Border Patrol has always had these qualities, but they were small, and held in some check under the Department of Justice. Since 9/11 they have become much bigger and more powerful, and are less constrained under DHS. That is part of it, but the culture is not new.
When you deliberately recruit from the dregs of humanity, this is the desired result. From the top down, they are the very same. Even the Nordic Nazi was like this.
