Jane Doe — the unnamed woman who came forward in late October alleging that in 1993 Senate candidate Herschel Walker (R) pressured her to get an abortion — is challenging Walker to meet her in person before Georgia’s runoff election, which is scheduled for Dec. 6.
Does this really matter? Three children he fathered out of wedlock, one paid abortion, and holding a gun to his wife vs. three children he fathered out of wedlock, two paid abortions, and holding a gun to his wife. What’s the difference? And then there is the vampire stuff and China’s air coming here and whatever. Folks who are going to vote for him are going to vote for him.
Hard disagree. If for no other reason than that it makes him absolutely radioactive to every other GOP congresscritter (except the insurrectionist loonies like Gosar and Biggs). It means more RNC $$ poured into GA, more Dem turnout in the runoff, and a surer guarantee of a Warnock win.
We really have to stop this armchair-strategizing-on-the-basis-of-no-insider-information. It’s pointless and it can be defeatist. Sure, the 26% MAGAt loonies will still vote for him (and Kemp’s scumbag vote suppression will help him). But every single one of these horrible stories further damages Walker and further improves odds for 51-49 Sen control.
At this point, the only thing that would deter the Georgians who’d vote for this bizarre person with less integrity than brain function is if it turns out he threw a football game.
(But I’m still glad she’s speaking out incessantly.)
In the scheme of things, it really doesn’t seem like it will change much, but it’s all of a piece in how craven and awful the GOP as a whole has become. That they would anoint someone with such a terrible temperament to be Senator is an affront to common decency and respect for our institutions and our democracy.
Trump is obviously still the biggest point of shame for their party, but so long as they continue to back candidates like Walker, they show they have no remorse for allowing Trump to take control of their party and to take the country down this dark path.
ETA: Apparently Josh M and I are of a similar mind, “all of a piece,” though he was talking about MAGA terrorists, not selected candidates.
These stories were all out in the media for weeks before the election and now there’s a run-off.
The GQP royalty will not allow Obama to steal the limelight in advance of this election, so they will all be there, even if they’re all wearing clothespins to hold their noses closed against the stench.
It’s not pointless, nor defeatlst. Those that don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The reality is, this is a closely contested race and this story is not going to have a scintilla of influence over its outcome. It may matter to people like you and me, but I’m not convinced the voters in GA are like you and me because they’re the ones that put the Senate seat into run-off contention, despite knowing all these ‘truths’ about Walker.
We’ll know in two more weeks just how little or how much it mattered.
In October, Walker said the accusations were a lie: “I’m done with this foolishness. I’ve already told people this is a lie, and I’m not going to entertain, continue to carry a lie along.”
Maybe it will help get a few more Democrats and decent human beings out to vote. I understand not everyone who could voted in the general. It happened, so it is beyond meaningful discourse now until we see how the election turns out. That’s the time for critique. I happen to believe the woman and will not fault her decision here. She is honest about her motives; I hope she is honest about the facts.
What matters to me is she is calling him out publicly.
My belief now and always has been is to call out Trump and friends publicly when they make these absurd statements with proof.
The MSM and even Dems have not pushed hard enough to force these liars out in the open and then give them the same coverage Trump is given for for his lies.
