Does this mean if he appeals to the SC they will take the case? It seems that is what they are telegraphing, “ask and you shall receive”.

This is in line with the other case, so they all end up waiting on the SC decision to take the case or not. The answer should be clear, since multiple courts now agree that the returns should be released, we’ll have to wait and see if the conservatives on the SC believe that laws apply to a Republican president.

I’m not holding my breath. Every time it looks like a “slam dunk” one entity or another saves Trump’s ass.

Wait and see? They’ve already done everything but skywriting that IOKIYAR.

It means they will consider taking the case. Nothing more, nothing less.

No, it means they are giving the president time to appeal to them, not that they will take the case. If the appeal is sent in, then the justices will discuss it, hopefully in December, and decide if they will take the cases or let their hold expire and the lower judgements stand. The legal answer should be the latter, but it is very possible that the four conservative justices force the case into trial, regardless of the law.

At least as seen from the outside.

I know this says more about me than anything else, but whenever I see SCOTUS attached to an article on TPM, I think about how glad I am we avoided the “equally evil” Clinton in becoming our President.

No. It means that the SCOTUS will help Trump run out the clock until after next year election. If Trump wins, they will rule that no, he doesn’t have to give congress shit, if a democrat wins then they will rule that yes the president is wholly accountable and should submit to whatever Congress asks.

Well, at least this will give us some insight into which justices view the constitution not as a guide for egalitarian governance, but rather a handbook for the rentier class to maintain power.

This is the single most important issue to Fat Donnie. If witnesses are forced to testify he’ll just call them liars and move on. Tax returns, though, are the ball game. He knows how damning they are.

What I think is that to stall off until after the 2020 election the Supreme Court will take the case.

That is I still doubt the “Robert’s Court” will make it so obvious it is really little more than a Republican Court by ruling for Trump, I do think the “Robert’s Court” is a Republican Court and will do anything sort of just coming out and acknowledging it is a Republican Court to help Republicans and Trump. As such I expect the Court to take the case and stall until after the 2020 election in providing a ruling.

Is there any point this SC stops doing the bidding of Trump?

They won’t be able to stall this past June 2020, there’s just no way they can put a case like this off further than that. If they do, it does as much damage as if they decide from Trump to their reputation, and I doubt the four liberal justices would allow them to get away with it. Justices don’t talk publicly about this stuff usually, but if the conservatives really do try to delay to help Trump it won’t stay secret.
