Originally published at: SCOTUS Freezes Alien Enemy Removals In Rare, Urgent, Late-Night Order - TPM – Talking Points Memo
A majority of Supreme Court justices temporarily blocked the Trump administration from removing a group of Venezuelans under the Alien Enemies Act in an order issued in the early hours of Saturday. The order came at lighting speed for the high court, and signals a staggering level of urgency as the Trump administration continues to…
F’n Thomas and Alito don’t give a sh*t about the Constitution, morality, or reality.
You know that Alito was trying to delay the order with his dissent until after the plane left.
Roberts pulled rank and issued the injunction leaving Alito to write his dissent after the fact. The Supreme Court -at least a majority- seems to be paying attention to Trump and Stephen Miller getting around the Court’s order of habeas being provided to all those in danger of being disappeared.
I suppose the Leopard Eats Faces Party could eat the face of Alito and Thomas and they would not even notice, and support its eating their face for that reason.
One might ask: Which party (or parties) is (are) a greater threat to the United States? Kilmar Abrego Garcia and/or the other group of Venezuelans who have been deprived of due process or Donald J. Trump, who has had the benefit of due process and was found guilty of committing 34 felonies (plus all of the other pending abuses of power)?
That basically never happens! Again—majority seems pissed.
They expect that Leonard Leo will buy them new faces.
Elon or Peter will pay for their reconstructive facial surgery.
The Supreme Court’s Saturday morning order is extraordinary in part for its speed. But as several legal observers noted, it’s also unusual because it came before Justice Alito could finish writing his dissent. The order stated that Alito’s dissent would “follow.”
No doubt, Alito was working in coordination with White House officials to attempt to delay the release of the order until after Trump’s administration was able to disappear the detainees.
Whoever put this out as an official WH communication may have gotten the attention of a majority of the Supreme Court. Also, Judge Wilkinson’s 7 page order where he cites the disintegration of the rule of law by this administration maybe swayed them.
The order, which was unsigned, said that Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented.
Because of course they did.
Still, 7-2 is a win, and I’ll take it.
The two Supremes that took all the goodies from the rich guys continue to rule against the rule of law. Quite a spectacle.
BTW, thanks to the ACLU. They are invaluable in this day and time. Making good trouble for the lawbreakers!!
This is it. There could hardly be a more dire Constitutional concern. Two members have fully embraced fascism. There is no other explanation for their dissent. The other seven, well, we will see if they are really starting to understand the stakes.
Was Sammy trying to pull a procedural fast one (or maybe a slow one) and intentionally slow-roll the writing of his dissent, to give the nascent dictatorship more time to take illegal actions?
ETA: Sorry, I see my remark here is redundant with … oh, about 50% of the preceding comments. Sorry.
Bogart movie?
I disagree: it should be a RED card!
Absolutely.
My wife said, “What the fuck, Alito?!”
Once you accept that he’s a fascist, nothing is puzzling.
Of the majority, 4 are Harvard grads (even saying it was a mistake, pissed off much at the Crimson threat?) and 1 was non-Ivy - ACB - who has swung to the left from time to time. The rest were Yale alum. Perhaps a couple of them recognized that all of the Ivy league might be in the crosshairs at some point.
Make it tangible if you can $$
My bux are going to those doing something (and that’s not you, DNC, not you)
