When’s the special session to make it illegal to leave the state for purposes of obtaining an abortion?
I’m gonna go with lack of proximate cause on that one, not to mention that this statute does not permit recovery of actual damages anyway.
He’s got a point. The Republican Party is now Orly Taitz! Yippee!
Why does a niche religious network like Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) have a place in the White House Press room?
If they are truly being ecumenical they ought to have a seat for the Church of Satan and the Scientologists.
I’ve actually seen some of EWTN‘s programming, a friend of mines in-laws would frequently have it on. It’s literally all Vatican, all the time. Shows like Mother Angelica and numerous Cardinals. Thankfully no shows like McCarrick and kids or Cardinal Burke’s health tips.

1. Texas is tied with MS for # of 10 yr olds who gave birth to baby after molestation/rape by a father/brother/uncle etc
2. TX is #1 in forcible rape of women, #1 for a decade in number of child deaths from abuse and neglect
New abortion law:
Here’s my seed, raise it.
Roberts has to be displeased … he was so happy to be the captain of the USS Supreme Court … oh occasionally he wanted a few more crewmembers that saw things more like him … but most of all he wanted a dignified conservative legacy …
But now he effectively has a mutiny on his hands … “dignified” , “a sense of decorum and sound deliberation” have been thrown in the toilet and pissed on … he finds himself getting wrapped in a piles of intentionally perverse legal horse dung … and his legacy will be that of a partisan hack chief justice - presiding over judicial malpractice … and he knows it!
John Roberts has lost control of the Supreme Court
No problem…Trump is causing all this…He’ll pay for it.
Yes, but they’re nihilistic enough to take the rest of us down with them.
Explains why they need the damned law. Can’t get to #1 because those damned 10 y/o kids keep sneaking off to Planned Parenthood.
To the extent that our pretty good anti-SLAPP statute would apply to one of these dumb abortion vigilante claims, I do not think SB8 would prevent an anti-SLAPP movant from recovering their attorney’s fees if they prevail on the motion. The statute only prevents awards of attorney’s fees under the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure or other rules promulgated by SCOTX. Anti-SLAPP is its own statute in the Civil Practice & Remedies Code, so an award of fees under it would still be available (if the case falls within the scope of anti-SLAPP).
Also note that SB8 only prohibits the courts from awarding attorney fees to the defendant under the rules. It does not prevent an award of sanctions against the plaintiff and in favor of the defendant. And such sanctions are often measured by the amount of fees the other party had to incur to defend itself from the bullshit lawsuit. So TRCP 13 still applies if the plaintiff files suit without sufficient factual basis.
Both he and DeSantis have failed their citizens. Thousands have died in both states due to allowing Covid to run wild. It is incompetence -prohibiting mask mandates, fining companies who require vaccines (Florida) shoulder shrugs about the health and safety of school children. They have both failed. Bigly.
Yesssss…
Doesn’t the anti-SLAPP law extend only to speech, association, or petitions? Seems to me like some of the abetting stuff might fall within that ambit, but at core, it seems hard to characterize the act of getting a particular medical procedure as within one of those categories? Or am I missing something?
Thank you.
Now I can lessen my rage at the Texas Goobers a very small amount. Here’s hoping that whoever files a suit at some poor bloke has the case blow up in their face.
RWNJ timing is awful.
They were jubilant with Afghanistan…
