There’s this pretty creepy thing called twin-twin transfusion where one embryo goes vampire on another one and basically hijacks the combined blood supply. Sometimes the victim twin survives. There are also cases where one twin, um, incorporates the cells of the other twin, leading to a singleton birth. (The missing embryo’s cells sometimes turn up as chimeric cells, sometimes as a growth that’s treated as a tumor.)

A woman I dated a long time ago had a little lump at the outer end of one eyebrow. She had it removed for cosmetic reasons…and was told it contained some hair follicles and tooth fragments!
