Schumer’s Plan To Sneak Past The Filibuster Three Times In One Year

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has a trick up his sleeve: namely, an attempt to create a third reconciliation vehicle this year, which would let Democrats pass more legislation on a simple majority vote.

It’s less hard to predict how Republicans will react to the gambit.

Not hard at all, no.

Fine, Chuck. Whatever. But none of it means anything unless and until you pass H/S-1. Without voting rights, the majority will always effectively be the minority.

I hope I’m wrong, but this doesn’t sound like good news for filibuster reform.

OT, but new Indiana Jones director (Mangold I think) is refusing to shoot in GA because of the voter suppression laws. Be prepared, because the response so far seems to be “oh sure, so punish GA liberals and Dems for all the hard work we did in 2020?” And you can bet your ass that the GOP will be faking that response too.

NMNQ. The only way they’re going to learn is the hard way and that requires MLB, movies, and others to boycott the state and for us to boycott its businesses. THEY. MUST. BE. BROKEN.

I’m starting to think that they won’t address the student loan crisis at all.

And Republican redistricting never dies.

But if you count your wins by the bills made into law, it’s good news. What matters are the outcomes…

That is a crucial point. H/S-1 is a fundamental bill that will “expand voting rights, change campaign finance laws to reduce the influence of money in politics, limit partisan gerrymandering, and create new ethics rules for federal officeholders.” In short, it cuts off at the knees the RethugliQann’s ruthless game book for rigging elections, depriving minorities the vote, and allowing the most wealthy to buy votes and politicians. It restores much of what has been lost of our democratic processes since Ronald Reagan declared that “government is the problem.” What a lie that was! The government is US, and if it becomes a problem, as indeed it has under Reagan, the Bushes, and especially Trump, then we can fix it. And now is the time to do so, and H/S-1 is the first big step to that end.

It’s Hugh Hewitt so I didn’t read past the title. Did he say anything remotely plausible or intelligent?

I Pledge Allegiance To The Parliamentarian

How come they don’t tell us about the senate parliamentarian in high school civics?

Indeed…and if you give all the country’s money to the wealthiest 1%, there’s a magical threshold that can be reached at which point they no longer want to keep it all to themselves.

We’ll reach it someday…promise…

“…the GOP will enjoy complete control of drawing new boundaries for 181 congressional districts, compared with a maximum of 74 for Democrats.”
