Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said he’s growing concerned that President Donald Trump might shut down the government to create a diversion amid the House impeachment investigation.
Real warning across the aisle (we need to work together… to avoid…) OR baiting Trump to act in a way that would be disasterous, for Trump ? Perhaps this is a “both” two-fer?
I wonder if Trump is really dumb enough to do this, as it didn’t work out that well last time. I don’t think his advisers would allow him to do it, and McConnell sure will push him to sign the funding bills. That doesn’t mean Trump won’t try to deflect from the impeachment process in any way he can, but this one would be way beyond sensible. I think Schumer is trying to make sure the statement is out there to pressure the Republicans to keep things running no matter what happens with impeachment.
We’ll see though, with Trump anything is possible…
As Josh says, as Trump becomes progressively more desperate, he’ll resort to measures no one ever saw coming or thought possible.
I wouldn’t put anything past him. He’ll try to find ways to hurt Democratic Party voters, in blue states particularly.
Anything goes, from restricting Medicaid funding to siccing ICE on immigrants even more aggressively to cancelling the election to I don’t even know what.
We’ll be spending a lot of time in the federal courts in the next year reversing his decisions.
