But what about the bigly unity T**** had been promoting these last four years? Why do Democrats hate America so much?

While conviction seems unlikely (as the GOP seems to be going for the “post-office impeachment is unconstitutional” excuse), its important to get them on the record again.

Many of these senators are going to try to gaslight us about their relationship with Trump in the future. A senate vote will be concrete evidence that they supported Trump all the way till the end.

We don’t even have to go as far as future generations - if there are no consequences for insurrection, the Republican will certainly and absolutely try it in 2022. They’re already making moves in state legislatures to do just that.

(As for excessively parsing Schumer’s statement, +1 for saying “look back” (expressly repudiating Obama’s rationalizing that kept holding George Bush’s administration accountable), and -1/2 for “you gotta look back”, giving the usual Democratic implication it’s on someone else to do something.)

Agreed. Quite the opposite. We should be impugning anyone opposing the trial as working to cover up this egregious violation of the oath of office. We should be demanding to know why are they so opposed to exposing seditious acts to the light of day

You’re probably entirely wrong.

If we can’t convict him of impeachment, I personally would settle for a good public caning. Just sayin’.

Within two weeks, tops, he’s going to tear McConnell a new asshole. He’s not cooperating but continuing to act as if he and not Schumer is Majority Leader and wants Schumer to accede to his wishes about the filibuster. He’ll give Turtle some rope and then let him hang himself. A new and better government won’t be built in a day, but it will be built.

There is really no need for the Democrats to defend this. At all.
