All Trump would have to do is order Bill Barr to make his life miserable and that would be that. There can be no doubt that at this very minute the personal and professional lives of every single person testifying before House committees are being combed through for intel that could be used against them. Up to and including accusing them of crimes. Bet on it.

This is almost certainly true, but it’s more for purposes of personal vengeance than for defense of impeachment. Too many people and the documentary evidence already tell the story to think that character evidence is going to blow the case apart. Trump’s only substantive defense is that you can grab 'em by the pussy when you’re a celebrity. With a Republican Senate, that’s all he needs.
