Yet insurrectionist politicians (so far) causing deaths - including police deaths, see no consequences whatsoever!
If the police are involved, isn’t Merrick Garland’s DOJ in a position to at least advise? No wonder kids sometimes grow up with the idea the police are the enemy.
“Schools And Police Punish Students of Color With Costly Tickets For Minor Misbehavior.”
Fixed.
My daughter’s high school career was ended by police dogs that found beer in the trunk of her car. She had been a A student before the punishment they inflicted on her, which everyone said was the result of an inflexible no tolerance policy. Yes, she was wrong, but sending her to an alternative school because she had some beer in the trunk of her car was way beyond reasonable. I will never forget the school administrator who imposed the punishment on her. I discovered later that the district had a grant to open an alternative high school for problem students and needed students to help them justify the grant.
See my reply. My daughter was a straight, white, suburban student with a solid academic record… The school district and their police cronies swept her up without a second thought. It is the reason I get so damned angry at folks who focus exclusively on people of color. Crap can happen to people of any color.
I appreciate that, however…
The investigation examined the race of students ticketed in dozens of school districts and found that police had issued tickets disproportionately to Black students. Even in predominantly white schools, Black students sometimes received most of the tickets. In some communities, Latino students also were ticketed at disproportionate rates.

Schools collaborate with police to teach disdain for the law
A friend’s daughter was kicked off cheerleading and forensics and had to be home schooled for a year, and lost out on scholarship eligibility, for bring marijuana to school. Which she used to cope with the severe chronic pain of Chiari’s malformation.
One day at the school I worked at a black 6th grader, an incredibly good kid, was hurrying through the commons to get to class in time. The SRO stepped in front of him and ordered him to tie his shoe and he replied he’d tie it in class because he didn’t want to be late. The SRO then got hardcore with him and told him if he didn’t tie his shoe RIGHT NOW she’d arrest him. (she wouldn’t have, just being an asshole) So the kid tied his shoe and SRO told him he’d better mind her from now on or else, and it made me feel sick. Hard to believe some adults act like that.
Cops are overwhelmingly cases of arrested development.
Adults fine students for things they did when they were in school.
Without going into a lot of detail, let me just say this is fucking bullshit.
Kids are getting harder and harder to discipline and deal with and many times the parents are the problem because they refuse to discipline their kids at home. Teachers are leaving the profession due to a lack of respect and support from the administrators and community, low pay and limited benefits. Problems with students usually start at home. Cellphones and earbuds are a huge problem with kids as well. School shootings have made it necessary for schools to have a police presence at all times.
With few watchful eyes on the school ticketing system and few rules to govern it, inequities have gone undetected. The investigation examined the race of students ticketed in dozens of school districts and found that police had issued tickets disproportionately to Black students. Even in predominantly white schools, Black students sometimes received most of the tickets. In some communities, Latino students also were ticketed at disproportionate rates.
Gosh, imagine my surprise.

Tazewell County: 35.9% Biden to 61.6% Trump
This is a way of punishing parents, not children, and trying to run the you-know-whos out of town while making sure that their precious white children are not forced to compete on a level playing field with the not-real-Americans’ evil future-Dem-voting heathen darky spawn.
Semlow needs to be doxxed and harassed until he leaves town. Effing pig.
Also too, YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!1!!1 I mean come on.
" In Texas, citing concerns that police were ticketing students too often for misbehavior, lawmakers passed legislation in 2013 that prohibits ticketing for some offenses at school."
This was no doubt after getting data on which students were getting which offenses most often so that “certain” students and their families could still be slapped with fines…just like when they studied who has what IDs and then cross the IDs most likely to be owned by “certain” people off the acceptable voting ID lists.
Again…
I’ve been teaching for 36 years. Unless you’re a public school teacher you have no idea.
I was a teacher in San Francisco, first as a substitute teacher in SF, SoSF, and Marin County middle and high schools and then as a regular high school teacher. The percentages of students suspended, disciplined or fined (that didn’t happen there to my knowledge) by race may reflect actual behavior, not discrimination (or of course both).
It’s not necessarily class or parental education based either - my poorest students were probably those from immigrant families living in small apartments in the worst parts of SF with parents who often didn’t speak much English and probably were not highly educated either, and they were also generally good and well behaved students. Heck, even when they were bad students they were generally well behaved and cooperative. (note the many qualifiers)
Race in the US is a complicated issue historically. Race based slavery was a thing until a century and a half ago, and Jim Crow until a half century ago.
