Schiff: Trump Is ‘Fudging The Intelligence’ | Talking Points Memo

House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) isn’t taking President Trump’s claim that top Iranian military official Qasem Soleimani was planning to attack four U.S. embassies lightly.

I am so glad he’s ours. He is, like Pelosi, exactly what we need at this tortured point in our history. So articulate and precise, and in his way as in your face as any Republican has ever been – but without coming off like a bully. Just wonderful.

It’s not “fudging”, it’s lying, but otherwise Schiff is spot on as usual.

I agree with you, but I think Schiff knowingly used the characterization of “fudging.” To say Trump was lying has a tendency to make Donnie supporters go ape shit whereas “fudging” is something that at least some of them can sit back and possibly understand as being true. Schiff and Pelosi are both skillful and careful in how the speak (unlike the Drumpsters, that is).

I think, likely as not, they’ve just been running trial balloons, trying to find something that’ll bring them a modicum of support and breathing room.
Like, “Soleimani was going to bomb Pearl Harbor on a Sunday morning if we didn’t stop him.”
It really seems as though it’s all like the fucking ‘Bowling Green Massacre:’ there’s no there.
But, then, they can’t come right out and say, “His Excellency needed to distract from the impeachment news,” or, “He’d have loved some positive attention,” about assassinating a ranking foreign government official, can they?

I would argue with the characterization of “fudging” too… The man is senile and it is getting worse. David Letterman is right…

‘The time has come to take him aside and put him in a home.’

The road to that home goes through President Moscow Mitch McConnell. I would love to wake up and find out some morning that he has gone to his reward.

In classic doubling down in the next few days, expect Trump to collect all threats against every US installation overseas and say it wasn’t four it was forty or four hundred or more!

I like that Schiff didn’t out and out call tRump a liar, he’s fudging. Makes Schiff look reasonable, not out for blood for all those rubes that care to convert.

Yes, and I hope Justice Scalia received his just reward on the other side too!

Well what I think it did was protect Schiff and the rest of the Democrats from the accusation that they mourn Soleimani’s death and love terrorists.

If he’d said he lied then they’d all howl that he loves terrorists and believes them over the president. He said he fudged it, that’s different as has been pointed out.

Maybe he means fudging as in pulling it straight out of his ass.

I’m just spitballin’ here…

I think this could definitely qualify as rat-fudging…

So, a definite paradigm shifty from the GOP?

Schiff and Pelosi are leading the way for the Democratic party to hit back hard without going Trumpian. We don’t need to beat our chests and lie, the truth is deadly and the fact it is making Trumps toadies look like ignorant fools is not by mistake.

All that’s missing is to find the Iranian Ahmad Chelabi. I’m sure the MEK can provide one.

Some people are saying it was 4000. They said they’ve never seen anything like this before, threats like this, it’s unbelievable. And people are calling him from the embassies, crying, big tough guys who are saying, “Sir, thank you for saving our lives. We know Obama would never have done that.”

Our reward would be to see him alive and behind bars.

Yeah that too and I think so. hahahahahaha
