Schiff: This Is Trump’s ‘Most Serious Misconduct Thus Far’

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) Wednesday called President Donald Trump’s behavior in the Ukrainian scandal his “most serious misconduct thus far” that left the House with “no choice” but to launch an impeachment inquiry.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1251142

I’ll propose that we start referring to Vice President Pence as “46” in future conversations.

Thank you, Congressman Schiff, for properly and concisely explaining the breaches of office that Trump has committed, particularly stating that the intent was to manufacture false charges.

Next, the media needs to quit using the word “transcript” when they refer to the printed B.S. that the Administration has promised to release today.

it is not clear that Trump’s DNI will let him

Yeah. It’s a head scratcher alright. They’ve been so compliant about everything else it’s hard to imagine them not following the law here. Right?

Got to give Trump credit. He served up such a nice and clear example of extortion/corruption that Dems and the media would have to try hard to mangle the message. Though, I am curious what defense the RWNJ echo chamber will come up this time to excuse Trump’s criminal actions.

So being a Top Secret Agent of Russia, under the direct control of Vladimir Putin, wasn’t serious enough?

You forgot the First Rule of American Politics: IOKIYAR.

No, Pence is just as involved in this latest shitstorm. We will soon by referring to President Pelosi…

that is the worst of all

Not sure about that, plus we’re not done yet.

I am pretty sure we have already heard the almost finished version

  1. Trump never explicitly said anything about the aid on the call - there is no quo to the quid
  2. Trump, unlike Obama, was just trying to root out corruption
  3. Any attempt to hear the actual call or interview the WB will undermine future presidents’ ability to speak candidly to foreign leaders
  4. The Democrats have overreached in their zeal to go after Trump and this is all a big nothingburger
  5. Let’s investigate the real criminal, Hunter Biden

the subset of arguments will all be along the variety of low IQ Maxine, Little Adam Schiff, ad hominem and straw man attacks galore, Democrats trying to subvert the election, squirrel, squirrel, squirrel, etc ad nauseum

After the last 2 1/2 years, to think that it is going to get even more ugly is unbelievable!

The short version, which we’ve already seen teased, is #actually it would be criminal to NOT do whatever it was that Trump did”, which is the formulation the rubes will understand.

No criminal, no criminal, you are the criminal!

Seriously, Pence is the worse nightmare for the Republicans. It would be like opening a restaurant and serving only unsalted dinner crackers. Ain’t gonna fly.

Edward Snowdon owes Donald Trump a thank you note.

The ease with which corrupt administration officials like the US AG and DNI quashed and concealed an official whistle-blower complaint from a high level Intelligence officer is exactly the scenario that Snowdon describes when he revealed illegal surveillance of the American Public.

If there are no checks & balances in a system then corruption is not only possible but rather inevitable.

The Trump cover-up machine in the Ukraine extortion, altering evidence and blocking inquiry, is nearly verbatim to what Snowdon described in his attempt to reach oversight officials.

I am stealing that.

How about instead “un-indicted co-conspirator Mike Pence”?

Just a thought.

Will the report actually be the transcript of the call? Is this a set-up to make the D’s look bad? Will the “whistle blower” actually provide useful info?

Suppose Trump is incapacitated. Unless Pence is incapacitated in that same moment, he will have time to appoint his own Vice President, in which case the Speaker of the House will not become president.

I’m good with an indictment directly. I don’t think the DOJ opinion covers anybody but the President, since the VP doesn’t directly oversee anything.
