Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Sunday that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) remarks last week teasing an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden is just part of his effort to deal with the “craziest” Republicans in his conference.
“But by doing it he is going to set a train in motion that he may not be able to stop. And, of course, McCarthy isn’t thinking ahead. He’s thinking, how do I keep my speakership for another day, maybe another week.”
Schiff is right, of course. And more: McCarthy can’t even argue with these people that this route is an electoral dead-end for the party. If these people are getting regular interviews on Fox or OANN or Newsmax and can make sure primary voters in their districts see them, well, that’s “victory” enough for them.
Don’t muck it up. Let them stay crazy and believe their nonsense is possible. Let them keep saying it so that Democrats and indie voters stay angry and energized. Don’t be a wet blanket.
Republicans have taken their sole move - a sledgehammer for anything they can get a swing at - and now are doomed to breaking the rubble into smaller pieces.
Quite right. In that same thread that that screenshot I posted above comes from, Max Boot notes that only 19% of Republicans believe that Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 imperiled American democracy.
I suppose my only questions are, just what weight is that sledgehammer; and how long are these people going to be willing to swing it?
Actually kind of remarkable that 46% of Republicans DON’T immediately snap into line when asked who they want to be the nominee next year. Trump is a weak candidate in a field of weaker candidates.
The GOP isn’t some creepy little insect that’s gonna trans into a butterfly mañana. It’s a toxic hysteria inside a cult led by an ignorant, disloyal and dangerous degenerate. The GOP’s Ohio ‘iteration’ is as nihilist as the rest of its parts.
Democrats need to watch out. When you are dealing with a jellyfish you never know where he is going to drift. He just might float into bringing an impeachment. After all what is more important than his speakership the next year and a half.
Many have said that Donald Trump is a publicity day trader. It seems the same is true of McCarthy wherein he needs to exhibit his weakness and incompetence on a daily basis. Both throw raw meat at their base each day.
