Schiff, Nadler Slam GOP Senators For Already Deciding Not To Impeach Trump Before Trial

On Sunday, House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY) ripped Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for already vowing that they won’t impeach President Donald Trump even before the Senate trial begins.

And the House Repubs had the audacity to charge that the Dem leadership was rushing to judgment?? Such self-serving BS!

Yet another day of infamy for the GOP.

Consistent bastards…

Hope they keep bringing it with this narrative and get tougher as this thing goes along.

The Republicans in the Senate are going to do everything they accused the Democrats of doing in the House…no witnesses, rush to judgement, decision already made, twisted procedures. They will spin it, and their true believers will go along with the idea that “Trump is innocent so a real trial is a waste of time”. I really hope this backfires on them though, I think most Americans would want a proper trial for something like this, and a show trial biased towards Trump should offend them…and may get them to ask why the Republicans cheated so hard, as an innocent person should have nothing to fear in a fair trial.

Josh’s piece on this topic was spot-on. Dems need to bang this drum on impartiality, the constitution, oversight, separate and equal branches, rule of law, etc. until the damn drum breaks.

Then get another drum.

Edit: Chris Wallace today asked Pam Bondi about the Senate Oath for impeachment (good question) then let her skate on the answer; no follow-up (why I believe these recent articles about Wallace “attacking” Trump are BS. He is drinking the Fox Kool-Aid also).

Rule XXV of the Senate Rules in Impeachment Trials provides the text: ”I solemnly swear (or affirm) that in all things appertaining to the trial of ____, now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help me God.”

Senators do not impeach. They convict or acquit the person who was impeached by the House.

Awareness or knowledge of the US Constitution is not a prerequisite for anyone in the GOP. In fact, it’s a fatal flaw that has thinned the herd to the status quid pro quo.

Make a campaign donation to Amy McGrath, and let Moscow Mitch know that since he isn’t willing to protect our democracy and defend our country from foreign enemies, you are supporting someone who IS and HAS.

Could somebody please tell me where in the hell Chuck Schumer is ? He’s Minority Leader and I don’t recall him saying anything at all. In the meantime McConnell is out there controlling the headlines which control the public debate. He should be on every news program on every channel demanding that those who who have made such statements recuse themselves . Why no Democratic leadership in the Senate ?

I’m sorry, but this is just dumb. Its not as if the information isn’t available, and complaining about “pre-judging” misses the real point — that only corrupt hacks who care less about the country than they do about a mean tweet from Trump think he belongs in the White House.

THAT should be the only message. Trump is unfit for office – and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is a liar. period.

It’s called “The Full Putin”.
The new Repucks don’t even care they are owned by Russia.
They seem to flaunt it.

McConnell and Graham’s remarks are symptomatic of Republicans’ acceptance of Trump’s misconduct.

It’s far worse than just acceptance of tRumps misconduct… it shows the perfidy of today’s GOP in fine focus. If these words had come out of the mouth of ANY DEMOCRATIC congress person we would be hearing cries of treason

Da, tovarisch. Republicans are doing something bad and it is the democrats’ fault.

Today’s Fox Poll is the validating cap stone of our drive for impeachment. Per this poll, impeachment is 54-41 and impeach/remove is 50-46.

No matter how this question has been phrased, from ‘impeachment inquiry’ to ‘impeach’ to ‘impeach/remove’ support has grown from the mid 30s into the 50s since the summer. Impeachment, no matter how phrased, has been net positive for 4 months. That is unprecedented in US history. It’s even more impressive given how crappy our media are. There’s no Walter Cronkite or Dan Rather out there speaking to 60 million homes a night. It’s Sean Hannity and Chuck Todd.

I’ve kept my own spreadsheet, and since Pelosi’s declaration, 84% of Dems, 43% of Indies and 10% of GOPers support impeachment across all polls for a 48-43 margin. Since the public hearings, that margin has increased to 49-43 among all polls.

We are getting the job done and Adam Schiff is going to pound these GOPers into the dirt this week just before the House votes. He will be impeached before Christmas and that will frame the 2020 election.

The key point to note is that as Dems have pressed forward on impeachment, it keeps getting more popular and accepted as legitimate. These numbers on whether Trump abused his power, committed bribery, obstructed Congress are pretty stunning and unprecedented. People talk about the Overton Window as a political concept. What we’ve seen in the last 6 months is a real time example of Dems moving that Overton Window on impeachment.

This is the sort of statement a troll makes. Dems have done all that they can to sway the public on this. As for Yertle recusing himself, it’ll never happen. Those people who care about this egregious misuse of power see it for what it is. Anyone who either doesn’t see it or could care less, won’t be swayed by Schumer. Those who don’t really care just see it as “politics.” All Dems can do is just keep on pushing.

They have to pledge to do impartial justice

So help me God.

They give their word. They pledge their honor. Does their religion mean anything to them? If not, then it means nothing to anyone.

A vote for Democrats is a vote for simple, human decency.

Yer missing the point. I make a pretty good effort to keep up with the news & haven’t seen much of Schumer. Why the hell isn’t Schumer out there more visibly pushing and pushing. He’s smart and a good speechifyer. He needs to be rallying the troops and dissing the barbarians. He should make himself as ubiquitous as Lindsey Graham (though without the smarmy-ness).
