Israel’s intense bombardment of Gaza continues in the aftermath of the unprecedented Oct. 7th Hamas-led attack. The expected Israeli ground invasion has not yet been launched, amid diplomatic efforts to free hostages held by Hamas. Humanitarian aid is struggling to get into the besieged Palestinian enclave.
I have sympathy for, and consider some of the grievances of Palestinians in their struggle for self-determination and statehood legitimate, none of that in any way justifies what occurred on Oct 7th.
Furthermore, while I do not believe in collective punishment, and don’'t conflate Palestinians as a whole with extremists like Hamas, I am having a hard time having or generating any support or solidarity for those who “stand with Gaza” in this conflict.
I have sympathy for, and consider some of the grievances of Isrealis in their struggle for self-determination and statehood legitimate, but none of that in any way justifies the continued heavy handed response to Oct 7th.
Furthermore, while I do not believe in collective punishment, and don’'t conflate Isrealis as a whole with extremists like Bibi, I am having a hard time having or generating any support or solidarity for those who “stand with Bibi” in this conflict.
Bibi propped up Hamas for years and is getting the war he wanted. The problem for decades now has been hardliners in Israel that refuse a 2 state solution and keep supporting “settlements”.
For me it depends on what standing with Gaza means. If it means that Palestinians live in peace within their homeland, then I stand with Gaza. On the others hand, I also stand with the Israeli people but not their government and the Druze. I don’t stand with Hamas or the PIJ or any other violent organization.
It feels like the world is going nut war rages in Ukraine zip in Gaza-Israel, in places in Africa and we now have complete extremism in charge of the House cuz nobody among the GOP wanted adults to be running things. And The new guy wants no money to aid Ukraine, just slaughter in Israel/Gaza… a guy in the Israeli gov’t said they’re just killing terrorists. When did babies still in diapers become terrorists? This does not mean Hamas is off the hook since they murdered people by the thousand in a few hours.
I saw some combat as a civilian. I’ve been shot at. There is nothing remotely honorable or romantic about it. We humans are dangerous to each other.
Hamas lit the fuse on October 7th. No one asked the Palestinians if they thought this was a good idea, but they are the ones who will pay.
The poor and the powerless will always be the ones who pay. May they rest in peace, because they have finally found it.
I have no answers. Apparently, neither does anyone else. And it’s just recriminations and the desire for revenge which lead to more of the same.
I stopped reading the descriptions on the photos. It really becomes irrelevant which side the victims are after a bit. Dead children, their parents, young, old, non-combatants.
Our local planned parenthood clinic still gathers the protestors on an almost daily basis. If they are pro-life, I suggest they head to the mid-east. It seems their prayers may be more needed there.
I am trying to figure out what Gaza is. Is it a State or a Prison. The whole Middle East could care less. The everyday Palestinian are nothing but pawns. Purity didn’t work in Germany, I can’t figure out how the Jewish state thinks it will work out for them.
I stand against Israel’s illegal colonizing of the West Bank and the “wilding” expeditions of the Israeli settlers there specifically targetting Palestinians. You expected that there would be no pushback from that? Well, here it is. And now Israel continues its policy of collective punishment of those who dared to oppose their illegal crimes in the West Bank. We know what the policy is. It’s been made clear. 10 dead Palestinians for every dead Israeli. This is what evil looks like.
