Some newcomers might not know that TPM was the first web-native news organization to win the George Polk award for Journalism, for coverage of the 2007 U.S. Attorneys Firing Scandal. It was a BFD, and the first of several accolades TPM has accrued over the years. It’s great to know that our subscription dollars go to actually pay the salaries of the people who do such exemplary work.
Such short memories. McCarthy bulletproofed the House Ethics Committee to assure any moves against Santos would not happen or get slow-rolled. Now Kev wants his speakership back and Santos is not providing a good look for other New York republicans.
TPM was firstest with the mostest on Santos, Bless’em!
Jesus, what a piece of work this guy is. And in full possession of the key personal characteristic essential in today’s Republican candidates and office holdes—he’s shameless.
That’s why I go to it first thing!
OK Republicans. Evidently this is what they wanted. Trivialize government and service and turn it into some kind of High School level drama and Reality TV style hokum.
Boebert, Mace, and Kitara in a no-holds-barred pole-dance strip off.
He will complete his term. He’s a useful idiot for the GOP and they need him. Being indicted doesn’t mean he loses his seat.
Trump-supporting Franklin, Tennessee mayoral candidate Gabrielle Hanson plunged headfirst into controversy yet again this week when she appeared to defend the fact that neo-Nazis came out to support her candidacy — and that she was the only member of the entire city council not to vote for a resolution condemning it.
The interaction came from a video, posted by NC5’s Phil Williams, in which Hanson spoke to a young Democratic activist, complimenting him for being involved in the political process. “But my side doesn’t have Nazis come to City Hall,” the activist protested.
“Everybody has their own thing,” Hanson replied.
TPM boldly goes where the New York Times won’t…
YES!!! Well done, @TPM!!! Thank you for being here, there, and everywhere! And for telling us all about it!
With more credibility, too!
Oh. I thought the H was an attempt to fool god into thinking you meant some other Jesus Christ.
O/T look who made the Israel news

The guy suffers from mental illness. Not sure what the diagnosis is but he’s not grounded in reality.
And the repukes are totally good with this, no doubt, since he’s still in Congress.
Nope. He’s hopelessly fucked on the legal front, and he’s queer queer queer. His only utility for Team R was as a loyal vote for Qevin, and that utility is over. Dipshit should have taken the plea deal. Now he’s just hoping for a Trump pardon that will never even become possible.
most people don’t. Most people don’t look at their pay stubs either, or balance their checkbooks. Most people are not taught basic financial skills and as a result are easily screwed over. By bank fees, or unauthorized deductions, or sometimes even shady but legal schemes.
I did some temp work a few years back and the payroll was contracted to a big third-party temp payroll agency. Who required direct deposit, and you had to sign in to a separate website with a separate login and password in order to view your pay stub. Needless to say, I was the only person who bothered to do this. And then noticed that there was money being deducted from my take-home pay and put into an Fidelity IRA account that I had not authorized. Called the payroll company to find out that technically this was not illegal because they had sent some email at some point (among a bombardment of emails with too much info thad usually didn’t apply to my job) that said somewhere they were doing this unless I opted out. Apparently lack of any response was enough to be considered an affirmative consent for opening an IRA account with my money? and yet it was somehow technically allowed. I was so pissed. Obviously I stopped it right away but they would not retroactively return what they had already deducted. So I have a Fidelity IRA account with a ridiculously small amount of $ in it. (yeah, i know I can roll that into another IRA account elsewhere, I keep meaning to and not getting around to it.) Or maybe there’s no money left in it if they’ve been charging fees. I need to check. I wouldn’t put it past them.
When I told my coworkers they were getting money deducted and put into an IRA without realizing, not one of them knew it was happening either. The whole system is set up to prey on people who are not taught how to defend themselves against it. Yes, people should check all their statements, but as someone who regularly does that and is pretty good at this stuff, I admit it’s a huge headache and I understand why most people don’t bother, even though they should.
It always comes down to that the people with the least means are the easiest to swindle and get away with it.
“Fool” God? I thought J. H. Christ was the guy who was famous for his skills on a pogo stick, rather than Joe and Mary’s kid, who got in all that trouble with the Romans, back in the day.
