Very likely. They undoubtedly have a number of alternatives depending on the severity of the situation.

Would that it were so! Sadly, I think it is all too true that it IS a popularity contest for way too many voters. If it were otherwise, I think almost all of us could point to numerous inflection points in our country’s history where things would’ve been different, and probably frequently for the better. The kind of reasoned, dispassion implied in your “who’s going to steer the country…” evaluation is belied in most of our elections and daily in the success of the advertising business in so many different arenas. (And now I’m so depressed, I’m gonna have to contemplate where in the world I can move for it to be better.)

maybe, but, Bernie was the favorite, until he wasn’t.

Has there been more testing? What information is being used to go this stage?

The initial lack of testing, and continued limitations, is criminal

We are probably at 10-15K cases in the us. What testing has been done ( cal and uw) shows about 7-10% Covid-19 infection.

Trump has already fucked the pooch, now the consequences start.

Dunno. Only know that the State is formulating contingency plans. Doesn’t mean that any particular alternative will be executed. Maybe none will, but just in case, a plan will be there.

Though with WA state as the US epicenter-- Gov Inslee is right to act in light of the feds incompetence.

The lockdown thing did seem to work in China.

It just can’t be enforced with the same, um, … gusto.

Bill Gates is on it. I’m thankful, but not pleased about it. A functioning federal government should be doing this. Why the hell are we paying taxes?

The popularity contest aspect probably entered into it when campaign consulting became a high paying industry, images, polling, etc. and it’s hard to say just when that was. But when you saw candidates checking their remarks or no longer wearing silly hats or posing while driving a tank, it had begun. Consultants also led to the rise of hyper partisan campaign aides, and to name just one Parscal. I may accept this new reality, but I don’t like it one bit.

I was all excited earlier because there was a post about Sanders and I could go back to reading the inevitable sniping about candidates instead of the stuff about the coronavirus and you people are seriously harshing my mellow in these recent posts.
