If only Germany and others worked on not being reliant on Russia energy we would likely not be in this mess. Shutting down those nuclear power plants before getting other sources of energy to replace it was a terrible move.

That’s Russia’s playbook for every neighbor since World War I. They have nothing positive to offer the world, so they’re the geopolitical equivalent of Loki - causing chaos and disorder in an attempt to bring everyone down to their level of plutocratic feudalism and backwardness.
At least when they were the Soviet Union they embraced scientific progress and the arts. Now it’s just about making cronies rich and others suffer.

If the U.S, NATO, Allies, etc., smack Putin around a bit and weaken him in the eyes of regular Russians, they’ll probably take care of the problem themselves. That’s what I’d like to see anyway.

Putin hired a big US PR firm in 2008 to rehabilitate his image with the American Right Wing. It worked.
He fired them in 2015 (when I guess he hired Trump).
