Rosen, Donoghue, And Clark: The Psychodrama That Nearly Could Have Ended American Democracy | Talking Points Memo

It was Jan. 3, and Jeffrey Bossert Clark had finally said yes.

President Trump had asked him the day before whether he wanted the top job in American law enforcement: attorney general.

a “proof of concept” proposal for the DOJ to send a letter to Georgia, declaring the election corrupt while advising the state to convene its legislature to consider appointing new, non-Biden electors.

Absolutely crazypants. This story sounds like something you’d hear in the late-phase Nixon white house.

You read this, and it sounds like the plot of a bad novel about political maneuvering to overthrow a government. The only differences are in a novel the overthrow would have worked, leading to a budding dictatorship that requires “real patriots” to “take the nation back”, and that this really happened.

This should be huge news, the US was at the very edge of a coup that would have thrown out the 2020 election result. And yet it’s hardly making a dent…and the players on the Republican side are plotting to do it for real in 2022 and/or 2024. Openly plotting, not really hiding anything, and acting like they were the ones cheated out of a fair election win in 2020. It’s absolutely mind boggling that there’s any question about what happened, and a real danger to the future of our democracy that nothing much is coming from this. That has to change, it’s critically important that people understand the Republican party has turned against democracy and plans to install our next government regardless of the will of the people…people must work to make sure that doesn’t happen.

If Garland doesn’t move on this…SMH.

Trump had searched for people willing to do this, and came up with Clark.

“Dang it! I would have done it.”

This story has legs.

It may turn out to be the proverbial smoking gun.

I’m fine with waiting for it to mature and then erupt like Mt. St. Helens.

Is Clark under subpoena by the Jan.6th Senate Committee? If not, how come?

Clark resigned from the Justice Department before Biden’s inauguration, on Jan. 14. He now works for a foundation that litigates against vaccine mandates and other COVID-19 measures.

It’s officially known as The Foundation of Intubation Equipment Manufacturers.

When asked whether the committee plans to subpoena Clark, a spokeswoman for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), said that committee rules require bipartisan support in order to issue a subpoena and that there is currently not support among Republican members for such a step.

That’s a senate committee. The House select committee has just now, today, been given reason to subpoena Jeffrey Clark.

The Psychodrama That Nearly Subverted American Democracy

Nearly? Whoa!! this nightmare ain’t over yet
… it is about halftime and the good guys have maybe a 2 point lead

there may be a whole second half of this crazy game yet to play

what is making many people queasy is that if the individuals behind this blatant effort to over rule the election are not severely punished … they will be emboldened and will try again , more ruthlessly and with greater force.

When I saw the word “psychodrama” in the title, I thought the article was referring to the hearing on Biden’s nominee for Comptroller of the Currency, Saule Omarova. It is amazing how little our senators or the public know about life in the Soviet Union, life at Soviet universities, or how economists are trained. This is really odd, because in the Cold War, it was accepted that the USSR had excellent mathematicians and physicists, so why not economists? Even MIT became a breeding ground for top economists in the US. Moreover, the US initially pushed to help Russia develop its economists. e.g. New Economic School. The Russian central bank’s governor, Elvira Nabiullina, had extensive contacts in the US, and was a Yale World Fellow in 2007. Similarly, Prof. Omarova’s academic career in the US has been nothing but exemplary.

Of course, the real problem is not the Soviet Union, which is dead, but the backwardness of American banking. The Wall Street Journal said:

“Ms. Omarova is the wrong nominee for the wrong industry in the wrong country in the wrong century.”

Which shows just how panicked the backward US banking industry is. The Russian banking system under Nebuillina has pulled licenses of poorly performing banks for years, even before the 2014 sanctions and Crimea annexation. It also understands the shadow economy, “round-tripping” of investment, etc. Bringing Soviet insight, plus top knowledge of US banking, makes Omarova ideal for looking at the backward US banking industry, as well as a good idea of how banking works around the world. Sweden for example is ending the use of cash altogether in a couple years. Home Depot is still struggling with a coin shortage. Americans still use “checks”. something that nobody under 40 in Finland would even understand. Right nominee. Right industry. Right century. But whether the country is right remains the issue.

If our Democracy hinges on the pathetic calculations of lesser men grabbing for offices and accolades they neither earned nor deserve, then we are well and truly fucked. All the next asshole Republican fascist has to do is sniff out these incel losers ahead of time and put them in place, one Manchurian candidate after another, in second or third-tier roles where they will go unnoticed until, like shark teeth, the bigger ones in front fall by the wayside until we’re left with an “acting” fascist government that dots every motherfucking “i” and crosses every “t” in its illegal legal briefs and fucks us all while we’re asleep. That’s coming, and it will happen not only because of a lack of spine on the part of Democrats, but a lack of imagination. We need to end this masturbatory fantasy that “it can’t happen here.” Because it fucking already IS happening here.

As always, COUNTING on the ignorance and the RW media to keep their followers stupid and uninformed. It’s the worst thing that’s happened to this country in a long, long time.
