Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) on Tuesday threw his support behind a floor vote on President Trump’s nominee to fill the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat.
It always amazes me, that a republican shows his true colors for 30+ years, then does his job just once…not a grand gesture, he simply asks to see the evidence at a trial…and half of the liberal world will declare him a Messiah and a decent man. And then be truly shocked when he, you know, continues to show his true colors.
I really do wonder if Mitch will even have hearings or will just go with - we’re not going to let the Dems publicly attempt to destroy our candidates life and integrity. We have consensus within Reps to pass and therefore will not have a normal confirmation process since the Dems wouldn’t participate in good faith.
In a statement released Tuesday, Romney said that his decision is “based on the immutable fairness of following the law, which in this case is the Constitution and precedent” and that if the nominee reaches the Senate floor, he “intend(s) to vote based upon their qualifications.”
Graham (the Judiciary chairman) n Barasso said there will be hearings (it’s subject to change/Trump), and they’re likely set up for either next week or the week after next.
I guess I’m unpleasantly surprised. Opposing a ram-through would have cost him nothing, since he is overwhelmingly popular in Utah, and in the case of a landslide burying the Trumpers, he’d be the automatic leader of the post-Trump GOP…maybe he figures his impeachment stand already grants him that honor.
I attended two conferences in New Orleans (before the flood, it was) and wasn’t terribly impressed. Had some good food but found Bourbon Street and the downtown area dirty, tawdry, and full of dumb tourists there from the midwest to see some naughtiness. There were people who said, “That’s not the real New Orleans,” and eventually I saw there were some very nice neighborhoods. But I answered that if you’re downtown staying at a hotel and the not-real New Orleans you’re surrounded by is inescapable, maybe it’s actually pretty real. That’s Romney. He was always a lying, pandering shit, more than anything else. How he can talk about immutable fairness and not burst into laughter, or flames, I can’t tell you.
