So, Romney is arguing that Republicans are too irresponsible to trust with avoiding a global financial meltdown, but that Democrats can handle it. Well, it seems that a party that can’t handle a simple job (clean vote to raise the debt limit and avoid said meltdown) really shouldn’t be trusted with control of our government.
I wonder if anyone pointed out to him that was the argument he was making.
It all comes down to Republican lizard brains: Democrats bad. Republicans good.
It’s the only consistent through line.
I’m glad that Biden and the current crop of Democrats learned the lessons from earlier fights: Don’t back down. Don’t negotiate with terrorists. Find another way.
I expect that by late next week, Yellen will announce that the Treasury will have series of sales consol bonds. I also wouldn’t be surprised if someone in the next 10 days sues to get the whole debt ceiling nonsense tossed as unconstitutional under the 14th amendment.

In Sinema’s defense, she is so Gawd-awful hypocritical, deceitful and duplicitous that she might very well have voted last December to raise the debt ceiling along with only her Democratic colleagues’ votes, just so she could then join with her Republican friends in blaming the Democrats for fiscal irresponsibility. Don’t think for a second that she is above that, or would hesitate to do much worse.
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) bemoaned Thursday that Democrats didn’t just raise the debt ceiling themselves before Republicans got their grubby mitts on it.
A reminder that Romney wanted to be POTUS. What would his slogan have been - the buck stopped when the Democrat left the Oval Office? So much leadership.
The question is not “Why didn’t the democrats raise the debt ceiling” on their own so you could just blame them for raising the debt ceiling, but why has the republican party never once balanced a budget on their watch? All republican’s want is to give our tax dollars to the rich while cutting social programs to pay for it, all while refusing to address or fix the budget.
Is it possible the Democrats have game planned this situation and are convinced that the Republicans are going to destroy themselves if they push their approach but they are going to crumble before they blow up the world economy.
“I wish they would have used partisanship to solve this issue because by asking for a bi-partisan solution they have made my party appear very partisan which is the claim we wanted to make against them instead of them appearing…bi-partisan?”
I would just like the thank Mitt Romney for the best campaign ad copy any democratic campaign could ask for, for 2024…

“Like when a Republican Senator insists the Democrats need to be the adults, because the Republicans refuse to? We couldn’t agree more, Senator: The American people are sick of the Republicans’ bullshit.”

Paid for by a metric assload of dark money the Republican-backed Citizen’s United decision enabled, because those guys hate you actually knowing what the hell is going on.
