On Tuesday, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) rejected President Donald Trump and several of his GOP allies’ bogus conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russia, hacked the 2016 election.
I’d say he’s a Not So Secret Asshat!
And the break begins. Romney has already survived the slings and arrows and come out on top. Nothing to lose by criticizing or breaking from the criminal in the white house and his sheep in the Rethug party.
Right now I see 4-5 senators voting to impeach and remove. But they have to be watching what is happening in the House. Nancy was on track to pick up 8 more seats, but now it looks as if that number could go as high as 15. You could see Trump not being removed, losing the election and Republicans blaming Trump, not Mitch, for the loss of the Senate. In any case, most Senators aren’t sweating the short-term consequences of Trump, there really are very few contested Senate races next year.
Mitt will be on his knees begging forgiveness pretty soon, he will probably even offer to drop the “Romney” surname like his niece did to please the Pestilent.
Perhaps we are looking at a late January entry into the Republican primary. The most potentially damaging court cases are likely to be resolved by then.
I have serious doubts that Mittens even understands the entire situation, but is really trying to position himself as the GOP savior when Donnie finally gets frog marched out of the Oval Trailer.
Time will tell, and that’s almost enough to block the spin that it was a purely partisan vote. It will mean nothing to Trump’s base of course. They will simply scream that the outliers are RINOs and deserve to roast on spits.
But it will drive Trump himself crazy. That’s a consummation devoutly to be wished.

Words fail. I can only hope that 53% of Trump’s base equals less than 20% of the country.
